I don't think any of these have been officially answered yet. So hopefully Jon or someone else in the know can answer...

1.  Will the delivered models have customized cab number specific crew talk?

2.  I have heard both ways that it's new tooling and that it reuses the tooling from the JLC. Just wondering if it will be the same 32" as my VL Challenger or if it will be the correct scale size which I figure to be about 34"  also new vs old tooling will determine if the run/pgm smoke on/off etc switches are under the loco or a removable sand dome.

3. Are all the feature sets needed for the depleting coal load etc already in Legacy 1.52 if not will there be any chance of 1.5x or 1.6 upgrade modules being free to customers buying the big boy who use macs and can not download the updates with their computer?

1) It has been stated that the engine specific crewtalk would be retained by the vision line engines

2) Someone else will have to cover that one

3) No modules are being issued for free to anyone at this time. I use Parallels  and the  LSU application to create them on my Mac. There was talk that you would be able to do updates over the iPad app, but so far nothing

1.52 most likely covers the BB feature set as it already has the coal loading, water loading, and fuel gauges for use with the sensor track.  The other features of whistle smoke and blow down already exist on current runs so I can't see that being an issue.

Of course only Lionel know 100% but based on what I know, I think 1.52 covers it.

I doubt that Lionel will "give free" modules as they have an avenue for upgrading with the download.  That being said, I'm not sure if they wouldn't create a set for you at a nominal charge of the module.  If not enough folks on the forum are comfortable enough to make them for you.

I'd be interested in question 1 myself.

Wasn't the very first "Legacy Big Boy" model (the one that came with a Legacy command base set, and the incorrect whistle) the correct length?

All my recent Lionel steamers have come with a front O coupler.  I can't see any reason why this one wouldn't as well.

I'm pretty sure he means the same length.

My 1st issue TMCC bigboy is 34.5" long. When did they shrink the "big" boy

Did you read the OP's 1st post?

I have heard both ways that it's new tooling and that it reuses the tooling from the JLC.

I was posting links to show that they were showing the same length since the OP had heard different things.

Just wanted to update with some official answers from Ryan Kunkle at Lionel.

Mark,

Let me try to answer your questions as best as I can at this point in time…

1.       There will be a mix of some existing tooling and new tooling in this locomotive. Specific to your question, control switches will be under the sand dome cover, not under the locomotive.

2.       The Big Boy will be a scale length. It is not being condensed. The prototype isn’t available for measuring here so I can’t give you an exact measurement. 34” is probably close… As locomotives can be measured from several different points, I would put more emphasis on the Approx. in the catalog description J

3.       Crew talk will be custom to the road number.

4.       Speakers will be comparable in size and quality to the Challenger.

I hope this answers your questions and makes you more comfortable in your purchasing decision. I’ll be sure to post updates on our wordpress blog as we get samples further along in the process.
