I am fairly new to O guage rail roading. I am interested in buying Lionel TMCC. I am on a fairly tight budget and would like to know what are the basic Lionel TMCC products I should get started with? I have the current Lionel catalog but there are so many items for the TMCC, what do I need? Thank-you.

At a minimum, to operate TMCC equipped engines you need a Cab-1 remote control, a command base, and a power supply. Lionel no longer offers these as they have gone to the much more expensive Legacy system, but they are still available on the secondary market. Lionel is supposed to release a Legacy Lite system, which will be cheaper than Legacy, but it isn't out yet.

save your pennies and get the legacy system. you will not be sorry and it will run every Lionel command engine out there. plus with the addition of a TPC you can run conventional engines. if you get a TMCC cab1 you will only want to update in the future and spend more in the long run.
I have to agree with the previous comment, go for the Legacy system. You'll be much happier in the long run.
Ditto!
I love TMCC, but have no interest in the full-blown Legacy System - but the new CAB-1L
and matching base will be a purchase by me, I'm sure. I have avoided the Full Legacy
system by buying some TMCC components at auction to put off the inevitable. A friend
has the Legacy system and I just don't care for the unit. And the TMCC stuff does all
that I want to do.
So, my recommendation: buy the new Legacy Lite system rather than TMCC.
I just hope Lionel actually produces it. I'll buy it.

What is the difference in how Legacy runs conventional engines compared to TMCC?
