I just acquired a Weaver Milwaukee F6 Baltic with TMCC/Railsounds. It has TMCC and EOB speed control and Railsounds 4.0. Unfortunately no sound or motion with either Legacy or conventional. All I get is Headlight, smoke unit and a little 60Hz buzz from the speaker.

This video is conventional. On power up I get flickering headlight for a few seconds then constant headlight.

With the Legacy base plugged in I get constant headlight on power up.  After entering Engine 1 and start in Legacy remote, I have no control, but the headlight flickers with commands.

I reprogrammed the engine according to the manual (see attachment): ENG, 1, Set (got no whistle response) then ENG, 1, Set, Aux1, 43.  Still dead.

Any suggestions for a next troubleshooting step?

Wire harness in good shape?  At this point it is really testing voltages and swapping boards.  RS versus motion are separate issues.  Unfortunately for those older EOB the bottom board usually has an effect on more then the normal Lionel style.  So if that board is bad your looking at a ERR upgrade, or swap over to DSC PS-3.

Does it run in conventional?  G

I have one of these engines and had a similar experience when I first bought it. I sent the engine back to Weaver and, as it turned out, I had not inserted the tether completely. That's all it was. Now, whenever I put the engine on the track, I double check the tether. It has been running great ever since and, in fact, is one of my best runners.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Jim.   I'll check the tether.   I recall that it is difficult to tell if it is engaged.  There is no "Click"

George, Are any of the original boards compatible with the ERR upgrade, or would I be replacing everything if one is bad?

If the tether is not the problem, I'll check the boards in the tender and post some pictures.

Normally a complete change.  But a picture of the set up would help.  Unlike Lionel that the engine and tender had boards in them, usually the Weaver TAS set up was one mother board like set up in the tender.  So space becomes an issue, and sometimes there are compatibility issues between ERR Cruise CDR and Traditional Lionel RS boards.  G

I plugged the R2LC, Railsounds, and Audio power boards into this test rig and fortunately, all functions work.

So it makes more sense to find a replacement SAW board rather than a new ERR setup.  Here it is:

Anyone have a board they are willing to sell? Will any SAW board work or do I need a specific board?

I emailed GRJ about this.  He identified  my fried board as a TAS EOB board, not a SAW board (it had a SAW label on the processor -  incorrect for that board).  I'd like to find a replacement before resigning myself to doing an ERR upgrade.

Anyone have a TAS EOB steam engine board that they would sell?

Update- found a board
