It is slow going getting these things painted, my wife gets upset when I paint things at home. So I now paint everything at the club.

I have the prototype passenger cars for the Lionel Standard Gauge Commodore Vanderbilt set. I  considered painting those; but since they are the prototype it could really diminish the value of the cars. So at this point they just sit on the shelf. I think Lionel pulled some of the handrails off when they needed spare parts.

Weekend Photo Fun starts early. In the last two years I have won several Cabin Fever Auctions. October of 2020 I got a set of 4 unpainted 400 series cars that I planned to paint to match my N&W 400E.

I have finally got around to taking them apart. Using primer, then painting the cars. This is still a work in progress, I am still working on the baggage car and I have to add lights.

After this project is done I still have an unpainted sets of 300 series cars, a second set of Hamiltonian Flyer cars and a set of 180 series Ives cars. I haven't decided on what colors I will paint the 300 series or the Hamiltonian cars. I am open to suggestions. The Ives cars will be painted in the National Limited colors to create a National Limited Jr. set using my 3236 red Ives electric.

Finally got around to finishing my shelves, just need paint now. Also running my k-line Berk in the spirit of this tooling being rereleased with legacy and whistle steam

My 1949 work train is slowly getting together.  Part of my issue in finding cars is the correct paint scheme.  Nearly all O gauge PRR MoW cars are yellow, a scheme that did not come about until 1954.  Before that, they were gray.  My first cars were MTH's crane and crane tender.  I think my first repaint project will be painting the tender gray (the crane will stay black, but the keystone and yellow needs to go).  I will have to make my own decals since I have not been able to find any for sale.

I then pick up some Atlas cars that have been reassigned to MoW.

My latest additions have been a tool car and a kitchen car, both by Lionel.  I need to add "PRR" in larger, bold type on the sides to finish them (like on the crane tender above).  I am now looking to two of the new bunk cars.

I tried to find my K-Line PRR foreman's car, but it is lost in the mess.  Unfortunately, it is yellow so another repaint project.  Once I add a flat car with trucks it will be close enough to complete to run.

Can some one help with my layout wiring?

Having seen Scotts Tinplate layout and custom paints personally his work and this layout is absolutely fabulous. My hat is off to Scott and Joshua for the work they have done on this layout and custom paint they have accomplished. The materials and ingenuity he used and found is great.

A couple of iPhone 13 Pro quick test shots. There’s a bit to learn with the new camera but it seems promising. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to regular digital camera.

Also finished this super nice 3rd Rail PRR BM70m. It needed some minor repairs and I 3D printed some Kadee mounts for it:

Ron like what you are doing.  But, have one question to the best of my recollection the PRR did not use "crane tender cabooses."  All info I have seen the crane boon hung over a flat car or gondola car.  Even MTH's first PRR Premier work train set back in 99 with that great 250 Ton crane used a flat car and and 8N cabin car.  Can you point me to something showing the use  of this kind of tender.  I believe MTH did offer this type of PRR tender at a much later date, but I passed on it  thinking not prototypical for the PRR.

Excited about running my Postwar 681 Turbine that I just got back from servicing. An overall tune up and cleaning and conversion to a new smoke unit.

Ron,

You are correct that the PRR used gondolas, and in some cases, flatcars as "tenders".  Here are a couple of shots of my work train on the layout.

I should have added the MTH crane tender will also be modified to a picture I saw of a PRR "Fire Fighting Equipment" car.  The cabin structure will not be correct, but close enough.  I need to find a tender shell to go on the other half of the car.  I'd post the picture, but I'm not sure about copy right issues.  It is easy to find via a web search.  To go with this I need to find a short, single dome tank car for water.

Looks like this thread started early, but I'm late and don't have too much this week unlike my post a week ago. Anyhow, here's some vehicles including a PA state trooper rolling along US Route 22 in Jacks Narrows, the same part of the layout that I posted photos of last week. I modeled the rock slide fence as on the prototype. A photo of the real scene is included for comparison. The vehicles still need to be weathered, and the Mustang needs a driver and PA plates...they're coming!

What is the location of the bridge in the second video? That appears to be a classic PRR pony truss bridge that has been repainted and possibly structurally retrofitted. There were two left in western PA, one of which was torn down last year (at Ardara) and one east of Greensburg which may be the one in one in the video, though I was told that it is shut down.  If so, it has obviously been repainted and probably rehabbed. But I'm not sure. Could you fill us in?

Good day at the club this morning.  Chief Drew had his Legacy GP-30's pushing a plow and pulling a 19 car train featuring 7 CN articulated container cars (the eight car was on the switching layout with the Mi-Jack loader.

Les had his MTH RS-3 Rail King circling the layout on a maintenance run:

I hooked up the Club's N.E. Trains track cleaning car with some fresh pads and Goo Gone running over two or the four mainlines.

My bad:  I failed to photograph Murph's TMCC N&W Class A engine, tender and auxiliary water tender.

And I failed to get a photo of a visiting Marine dad, Mike, and his 6 year old son operating one of our LionChief locos while the Dad videoed him -- the dad is being deployed shortly.  I'll do better, promise.

Reliving my childhood through the recreation of this car.

Still much to do.

A Lionel Texas Special observation car is becoming a Frisco Meteor obs. 

If possible, I could do stuff like this 16 hours a day and never get tired of it.
