My project of the week was replacing a bad smoke unit in a 3rd Rail N&W Class M. This was was a bear to do. As I worked on it I am amazed how much this looks like the prototype sitting just outside the fence at the VMT.

I was on a late 40s kick on the layout this week -

 

 

Also had on Set 2235W  from 55

 

Lorenzo wanted to set up his Polar Express in the playroom - something about trains on the floor!

Even Lucia got down & enjoyed the action!

Amtrak ACS-64 649 leads a Harrisburg bound Keystone Service train through Princeton Junction in late afternoon light back in November-

NS Dash-9 9127 leads 18M through Danville, VA as it heads south towards Linwood, NC - 4/9/16 -

Due to a late departure out of Lynchburg, the light was all but gone by the time 611 passed under the soon to be gone Southern signals at Reidsville, NC - 4/9/16 -

As a steady rain falls, NS D9-44CW 9323 leads a manifest past the iconic Thomasville sign as it heads northbound on the Danville District - 5/2/16 - 

NS 337 heads southbound through Fort Mill, SC on the R Line with it's usual power of Dash-9s - 5/1/16 -

In a somewhat rare westbound move over the former VGN Whitethorne District, NS Dash-9 9906 leads rerouted 195 at Kumis, which is the west end of the siding that passes under US 460 between Riverside and Elliston, VA - 4/9/16 -

First attempt at weathering rolling stock . Weathering dye ,chalk from Joe's Model Trains. Techniques inspired by Rich Bautista Toy Trains on tracks video. Also Norm with air brush on T.M. video. Have been procrastinating for a few years now. Recent posts by Greg Annett,  Sirt and Norm Charbboneau have motivated me to jump in. Very enjoyable, excess application easily correctable. Tempted to add dust colored or roof brown paint on trucks/undercarriage with air brush. Can always add more later after having completed a  few  more units . Five down dozens to go, not to mention Loco,s

As usual a great start to the weekend. Finger is sore. Photos of Mr. Muffin's layout are always great to see. Walt's stuff is always cool. SIRT just continues to inspire us all. This week Rich Battista steels the show with realistic photos of his new MTH CN SD70Ace.(the first two pics)

It was time to tidy up....the total chaos around the layout was driving me crazy.  Here's as tidy as it gets, until such time as I install valences and curtains to block off below the layout.

  Looking south.

Further south holds a staging yard ( almost hidden in this shot ) with it's access track on the left holding a string of reefers.   A reverse loop intruding on floor space will eventually be hinged for easier access.  Much of the area to the right will eventually be covered with an engine facility.

Looking north, my sound system and Zenith TransOceanic provide another distraction when the trains are silent.  Was listening to WBCQ in Monticello ME tonight.

Further north is the main work area and where all power radiates from. 

Off to the left things get a little messy and remains a section where fine tuning to my track work is needed.  Details like block wiring and, oh, maybe some rails attached to the two empty switches shown here.

Even more clutter, but despite what appears to be obstructions, all lines here are operational.  The duck under highline is just one of those compromises one gives in to when squeezing as much layout as possible into an attic.

My former PS1, GG1 threads its way through a crossover, now upgraded with ERR.  At this angle it's hard to tell that 4907 is traditional sized.

Even this poor quality photo gives the illusion of a scale T1, when in reality it's LionChief hauling 15 inchers.  The Tuscan K4 rushing down grade is scale and my initiation into Legacy steam.  Really fun!

Drodder, Matt, Suz...Thanks.   These are screen shots from a video segment that will be in the next video.  Sometimes I plan and set up a video but don't realize how good it looks until I crop and edit it.  This is one of those cases and had to share.  I plan on more of these distant shots.  Here is another screen shot.

Mike..seriously...these are IMO perfectly weathered.  They are not overdone and at the same time no longer look like toys.   They look real.  Great job!

t8afao and BobbyD posted pics of the scale double door high cubes and with you mentioning they look different I had to check the high cube single doors from last year. There is a difference. In the pics the trucks are turned around, but I think they are the same either way. Everything looks basically the same until you look at the air line piping underneath. Last years run has them and this year doesn't. I had bought all eight double doors and two out of two do not have the airlines underneath. Here are pics. The green car is the one from last year. Monday I think I'll email Lionel with the pics asking them about this. I am wondering if this was just something not put on or is it a cost saving action ......Paul
