Weekend Photo Fun 6/10/16 HONGZ

One of my roads of concentration in N scale is the Chessie System. For the duration of the Chessie era into CSX, there was a percentage of the locomotive fleet which remained in the schemes of the component roads and never received Chessie paint. It was therefore quite common to see consists with units wearing the older liveries so I keep a few such models on hand to replicate these operations. The units pictured are a B&O GP38 and Western Maryland GP35, both by Atlas.

Nothing new in N scale, but here is a photo of a N scale Trainmaster next to my latest O scale blue and yellow Virginian Trainmaster purchase.

Thanks for your interest in my Train Master engine. When I was 11 years old my dad bought me a Virginian Train Master that was for my birthday. I have purchased a few Virginian Train masters in the past, a K-line version and a Lionel conventional classics version in yellow and black.   I still yearned for a postwar version, so I started my quest for one. Prices on those engines were either too high or they were not in the best shape. I found a complete Train Master chassis in really nice shape at a good price and purchased it. I now had to find a shell to fit and located a modern Lionel Virginian shell that looked very close to the yellow and blue version I owned as a kid. The only real difference was that the engine just had a small pw on the engine cab side. Everything has been great with this engine and it is so smooth, I forgot how great those old engines ran.

One of the locomotives on the original family roster was the 2321 DL&W Train Master so I was exposed to TM Fever at an early age. Plus, I was blessed with the opportunity to see CNJ's units in daily commuter service on the New York & Long Branch so I had Train Masters coming at me from all angles! In addition to the 2321,    we later acquired a 2322 Virginian. Our most recent O scale TM acquisition was MTH's newly tooled Premier version...a truly wonderful model.

It's HONGZ WPF time!

Here's the growing engine and rolling stock fleet for my Colorado & Pacific theme. Compare these to my photo in last week's HONGZ WPF and you should see significant increase... and there's more on the way!

What doesn't show in these pictures is that I also received two locomotive kits and several structure kits this week.  No need in showing you the opened boxes... be nothing but parts therein, however, here's some pics to at least illustrate.

First, here's the box art for the Arbour Models Brooks Mogul I've purchased:

These are all pretty simplistic kits, but can look very nice in a realistic setting such as seen in this Kibri advertisement:

And the above aren't even weathered or painted... assembled straight out of the box!

I'll be using the above kits to create the look of Colorado "boom towns" during the gold/silver rush taking place back in the 1870s up until about 1893 when the Silver Crash occurred. (My era will be the late 1870s - mid 1880s.)

Here's a picture of Red Mountain Town in Colorado to help you see how the above will be used.

So, as you can see, it's been a very busy week for me within this hobby!

The model my dad bought  for me was the 2322 Virginian Train Master in 1965. The shell I just purchased has the number 2331.

Great picture's everyone keep them coming!

Spent the last two Saturday afternoons paying back horsepower hours to the Northern Illinois railroad, and doing ballast and ground cover in the car shop area.   The Northern Illinois is owned by my friend Allen, who has provided a significant amount of horsepower hours to the Spokane Southern.

We still have a bit more work to do on this area, but things are starting to come together nicely.

This area should keep the two daily switch jobs for this area pretty busy.
