Jeff:

Since you indicated an interest in acquiring a Kato N scale P42 in last week's thread, here is one of the units on my roster. This is the 66 which is wearing the Amtrak 40th anniversary Phase II scheme. The model possesses the features typically associated with Kato quality. The decoration is flawless and the body is rich in detailing. The model is packed with a bag of additional detail parts which can be applied by the modeler if so desired. These are exceptional locomotives in my opinion.

Well, if you'll pardon the overworked pun, I've been moving forward with "a full head of steam" on my idea of returning to modeling 19th century steam in HO scale.

I've made several decisions, perhaps to be discussed in my "Idiot" thread soon, but for now it's time for pictures.

Here's a look at the amassing rolling stock fleet. You're looking at inexpensive AHM/Bachmann/Tyco offerings that will get some "loving care" and some minor details and repainted/decaled to become effective "good 'enuf" equipment for my late 1870s - mid 1880s theme. The craftsman-type kits can come later. Right now the immediate goal is to acquire the needed equipment for when the room is ready for bench work. (Note: Since this picture was taken, more rolling stock has arrived at my doorstep... and more on the way!)

Also, I've been spending a bit of time returning to tinkering with kit bashin' n' mixin' n' matchin' various parts to create my own steam engines. (I used to REALLY enjoy this aspect of modeling TOC19 steam.)  Here's a little Mogul that has the basics starting to shape up. You're looking at a modified MDC 52" driver Mogul frame and an AHM/Pocher boiler, cab, cylinders/saddle, and pilot modified to fit onto it, topped off with a Tyco "General" exhaust stack. Still a long ways to go... but you get the idea!

Also, I've finalized on a locale and theme for my upcoming 1870s - 1880s empire... but that, too, needs to be discussed in my "Idiot" thread and not here!

All fer now!

Andre
