Short trip, from Cumberland Maryland to Sheppardstown WV., where the trip pictures started 3 weeks ago. Thanks for viewing and the comments.  Keep in mind this is the C&O Canal Path, used as a walkway for the mules, it was never a railroad.  It still has it's issues even as a bike trail.

First indication that there is Civil War history here.

Lock #75, I believe the count is from Washington DC.  Not far from Cumberland.

There had to have been some serious trademen when this was built. Stone mason work is beautiful 100 plus years later.

You would think there has to be some fish in all these ponds.  On a hot, hot day the turtles love the sun.

Paw Paw Tunnel.  Lot of history here.  No lights, walk the bikes through the tunnel.

Very Hot day we still have a good bit of distance to reach Hancock MD our destination.  Even some of the best riders are showing signs of wear down from the heat.

Not far from hear, about mile post 143 or 142, there is a parallel trail, much better condition than the Canal Path, Old Western Maryland Rail trail, that is paved.   We finished the day on the better trail to Hancock MD., and spent the night, Berkeley Springs WV.  Rail trail Map  Cumberland to Hancock.

As long as we are on the subject of trips...We went to Normandy last week.   In commemoration, I decided to turn this...

Still trying to get the hang of this Panorama thing on the iPhone.  Not quite sure I did this right...

The rest, well, we'll just go back to conventional shooting!

Beautiful sunny day, top down, great Doobie Bros. song blaring on the radio...so tempting to really lay on that gas pedal, isn't it?    (And then you see something bright and shiny in the rear-view mirror!!)

Yesterday I took this photo of B&O Q4b #4478 working its way up the Puckett Ridge grade providing helper service to a train of empty hoppers headed back to the mine.  Bo

Action on the Seattle & Yakima RR

Bill: just curious.  Did you get that RR engine and car shown, along with that Red American Beer car, and I few others that I recognize here from Harry, possibly at the Monroeville Train Show???  I'm asking because he bought my entire collection including three or more of the items shown here.

I was in Santa Fe New Mexico last week.  Here are some photos that I took around the station.   I posted more photos on the "Real Trains" forum.

I hope that either Lionel or MTH will make a model of the Rail Runner train.  I know that one of our forum members has a custom painted train.

The paint can look white in photos.  It is actually a light silver gray.  I think that this paint scheme is  terrific and it operates over the old the Santa Fe trail.

I just had a nice surprise. I've had this engine for many years.  A PS1 Alco DL-109.  One of the first scale based Santa Fe engines I purchased. 

It's been hasn't been run for at least 7 years, probably more.  I converted it to command control years ago using a Digital Dynamics Equalizer but DD never came out with the slave board for the B unit.  I removed the Equalizer and it has been PS1 ever since. 

I thought I messed up the engine with the "2 clangs of death" (not sure about that whole thing), but today I place the engine on the track and powered it up under Legacy and a TPC 400.  At first I got sound and clangs, but no movement.  I pressed the numbers on the numerical pad and got a bell or horn or clang, etc.  Then I plugged in the DL-110 B unit and when I pressed the direction button it took off!  Luckily I caught it. 

After all these years, it works!  Now I'm going to have to 3RS it.

Here in the Philadelphia area the new Hyundai Rotum, SEPTA, Silverliner V,s look white in subduded light also. The first ones I saw looked white and I said: why white when named Silverliner??? Of course in good light they are SILVER!

The Railrunners are great cars to look at, they where one of the projects of the company I work for, I think.

Hi Walt, bought the loco from Charlie at Nassau Hobby when first released from Weaver, the beer cars most likely from Charlie or Jims Train shop.

This pair runs back and forth several times per day from a paper mill to a processing plant. From what we've heard recently, a new company (Blue Ridge Southern?) has bought this route. Will have to be on the alert for the new paint scheme...

Going to turn back the clock this week -

I like the look of these. Met a guy who was the local representative of Bombardier who makes these cars. The cars are designed to be easily serviced and I prefer them to the Hyundai-Rotem cars and despite some mishaps we've had out here in Southern California, they've shown incredible structural integrity. Here's another paint scheme I like -- Trinity Rail Express servicing the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. I'd like to model this downtown Fort Worth, TX scene if I had the space.

Rail Runner -

I have an interest in these locos for some custom work: I have no interest in the

NM Rail Runner as such. But, if they are modeled (the shells) -properly-, I'd jump on the locos.

Problem is, these locos are designated "M36" something... and are, so far as I know,

NOT the same as the already-made FP59 that MTH has offered. They are similar, but

have a different outline, sleeker than the 59's. I believe.

So, even if MTH offers "these", they aren't, probably.

Or, maybe I dreamed all that. Diesels can confuse me; it can be like telling one

washing machine from another. 

There are two. There's the MP36PH-3C 3600HP unit being used by Metrolink and others. The shape is pretty sleek, except the pilot looks like it was involved in a collision since they don't have snow plows in place. The F59PHi's pilot looks much better -- with or without a snow plow. The other one is the MP40PH-3C which is 4000HP version.

Metrolink (and probably others) have ordered the new EMD F125 Spirit. They're supposed to be delivered in 2015.

When you think about it, they've come full circle with streamline commuter passenger diesel locomotives. They started with the EMD F-unit covered wagons (FT's, F2's, F3's, F7's, F9's and the E-units) and now they're back with EMD F59PHi's and now F125's.

Right you are Cliff, and Road Champs to boot.
