there is no reason to move this topic except you CAN. petty

Isn't it logical that ALL the various "photo posting threads" should be in the "Photo Album" Forum?
I think it may have something to do with the copyright issue. if most of the photos posted on the forum are in the Photo Albums section it would be easier to police for copyrighted photos. Switcher Saturday was also moved to the Photo Albums.
So now we cant attach photos to a post anymore? That will get boring in a hurry.

Who stated THAT? If you are discussing a technical issue with your layout or model, supporting photos would seem to be a necessity, on the proper forum of course, such as the Scenery and Structures Forum, The Legacy & TMCC Forum, or the MTH DCS Forum, for some examples.
That will get boring in a hurry.
Then why not just visit the Photo Albums Forum?
Put It back on the 3 rail forum it's been a staple there for years!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s OGR’s forum and they provide it as a courtesy through the generosity of the advertisers. That being said, the copyright issue is a tough issue. Unless it’s your own photo it shouldn’t be ‘shared’, unless you have permission of the copyright owner, and give credit to the owner for that permission or use of that image.
The administration may operate the forum but it's our subscription money advertising dollars etc that aid to keep.it a float .This is not about copyright issues I hope alone because then also other main staples like Sunday Scenic Showcase Tinplate Photo showcase etc that are photo albums will need to be moved . A medium like this today is a necessity not a courtesy in business and is part of the OGR brand. Yes we need parameters but let's not go all the way from the left to the right. And by the way I love OGR!!!! You know I think this struck a chord with me!!!😊
ALL because ONE person cannot understand or is not willing to follow the new rules Alan delineated last week!!!!

And you would no doubt be correct, Lionlman!

Yes, that is the crux of the matter. If you didn’t take it, don’t post it without express permission of the photographer. The world we live in.
I sympathize. Clicking that mouse a couple more times is so much work. Get a grip.
Don't worry Scott, your fans will follow!
The reason for the move is so we can all post both model pics and prototype pics on this topic without breaking TOS. Not a biggy in order to comply with TOS. I really like pairing model and prototype pics in the same post so I'm real good with the change.
I always thought you had to have a copyright approved by a govt agency before it is copyrighted. Guess I am wrong there, everyone who takes a picture has an automatic copyright I guess, perhaps there is another name for it.
Wow. Really? That is so annoying and unnecessary. Seems like ogr over reacts and just makes problems for themselves.

I take it you missed the earlier thread discussing the lawsuit against OGR because of a copyrighted photo? I would hardly call this overreacting by OGR, unless you’re offering to pay their costs for future lawsuits?
Well Scott I'm wrong again. I cant' even find the photo album section!

You wouldn't, but I did. But I am an IP attorney so I wouldn't be p*s*ing myself about it and blowing up the most popular thread I had if it were me. Why not just go all the way and stop allowing photos if it's too much trouble to police it. And no I am not offering to pay OGRs bills.

You have got to be kidding! The "Photo Album" Forum is under the sub-heading of "Miscellaneous Subjects", down lower on the main "OGR ON-LINE FORUMS" page.

Or just look over there >>>>>>>>>>
on the right side of the page.
I don't see what the issue is guys. TOS is OGR's rules plain and simple. Copyright law is US government law. OGR owns, runs, and maintains this forum, so abide by the rules set forth by OGR TOS. Simple as that. I have no problem with it.
Whenever I visit someone else's home, I'm a guest in their house, and I abide by their house rules. No problem at all. I don't whine and try to negotiate with my host if one of their rules doesn't agree with me. I mean it's not like Allan is deleting the thread and leaving us with no place to view or post Weekend Photo Fun pics. The thread is simply being moved to a new place akin to switching a string of cars from one track to another in a freight yard ... the cars on track 3 are now the same cars relocated onto track 4 and these cars are still in the same yard ... thats all. In reality the Weekend Photo Fun thread is still active and we can carry on with our business of posting and viewing prototype, model, and toy trains as long as there are no copyright violations. Seems quite simple to me ... and yes as others have already commented ... moving the thread to Photo Album makes it easier ( I assume ) for administrators to monitor photos which may violate copyright law. I put myself in the position of OGR staff folks whose job of having to keep up with all the activity on this forum .... very time consuming and perhaps frustrating!
Posting on this forum is a privilege extended to us by OGR. My subscription fee is for OGR magazine hardcopy/digital. As I see it, this forum is a perk for which there is no charge. The advertisers really support or partially support the forum. Of course I support the OGR Forum advertisers whenever possible. Again moving the thread from one forum heading to another is really no big deal.
My 2 cents.
There are no or should be no copyrighted photos in the Weekend Photo Fun thread as these photos are taken by the layout owners of there layout.
I do understand the copyright issue, but I'm not sure it pertains here. I look forward to this topic every weekend and policing it should be easy as its always in the same place every Friday night. It's not like anyone would need to look hard to find it.
But its OGR forum and nobody likes to have legal issues, i do get that. Members who continue to violate the rules should be asked to leave.
So sad that posting a photo has become such a big deal, especially when the hobby needs all of the help that it can get.

So,,,,,,posting somebody else's photos is OK with you?
All I gotta say is "yay!" I have always disliked scrolling through repeated photos. And while I generally do not mind someone else using my photos, I think the least they can do is give me credit.
I regarded the move as silly, but if it eases Alan's burden, then good. I can handle it. Now off to that trolley thread . . .

I do understand the copyright angle, but when you post something on the internet what exactly do you think will happen to it? I mean really.

Clearly you do NOT understand copyright. When "you" "post something on the internet" it does, indeed, belong to "you".

Steve, Just stick with it for all your loyal fans. Your imagination and artistry inspire us.
No big deal, I won't lose any sleep over the change.
Same thing happened to Switcher Saturday a few weeks back. No big deal and we are still posting photos of our beloved switchers, albeit without the supplemental internet based photos.
I understand what Alan is facing here and am OK with the changes. Just gotta go with the flow. It is a shame that some nosy lawyer had to start sniffing around and break up our little community.

That sure would be nice! We're a very small organization and a hefty lawsuit like the one we just paid puts a BIG dent in things, financially and otherwise. I told Alan we should consider setting up a "Go-Fund-Me" account to help recover.
More to the point, I would like to know who filed the suit, and over what pictures it was filed. I doubt we will ever know, but I'm okay with the changes.
I too would prefer it stayed where it was, but I think it's just a matter of all of us getting used to looking for it in the photo section.

I have been involved with High School Yearbooks on & off for the past 36 years. This summer I attended a workshop for Yearbook Advisors & Students.
One of the keynote speakers talked about copyright laws and how students need to learn the basics of copyright laws as related to student publications. This is the book they gave us to take back to our schools. It was pointed out that school boards and the printing companies that publish yearbooks have deep pockets and have been targeted by copyright attorneys. It sounds just like what happen to OGR Forum.

Good idea. Now that I would contribute to!
