I recently acquired this O gauge Bing clock-work engine and tender. The tender has a sticker from a previous owner identifying this as Bing for Bassett-Lowke 1928. The thing that I found most amazing is that the drawbar between the engine and tender is self-adjusting! This is a feature that has been touted on some of the modern Lionel releases. My usual request is for more information about this engine and tender. It was obviously made for the British market, but I always seem to lack the necessary reference material for European trains.

Hi Eric,
Yes indeed it is a Bing locomotive from 1928 though not specifically made for Bassett Lowke. The catalogue number is 61/4732. It is not often that you find these locomotives in such beautiful condition, inasmuch as they were one of the less expensive locomotives. The high end clockwork locomotives that year featured one of the most powerful 0 gauge clock mechanisms (perhaps the most powerful). Here is a photo showing several of my Bing 4-6-0 locomotives fitted with the superclockwork mechanism. Lew
Sorry for the duplicate photos.!!!

More Lionel Prewar fun; an original Lionel 264-E Commodore Vanderbilt and 261T tender (in black) and a restored 265-E Commodore Vanderbilt and 265T tender (in blue for the Blue Streak set) on the layout. The black 264-E is a recent acquisition. It's in great cosmetic shape but unfortunately has a piece missing out of the gear on the back of one of the driving wheels. Presumably replacement wheels are available.

Lew,
That is exactly the information that I was seeking. In the last 3 years, I have only begun to collect European trains. Previously I only collected prewar standard and O.
You have a wonderful collection! Are those 1 or O gauge?

Hi Eric,
The clockwork locomotives are O Gauge. If you are interested seeing stuff from my collection go towww.myworldoftrains.shutterfly.com. If you are in Warwick at the convention this week, feel free to come over to my house --about one hour from the convention hotel or join Tour 18.

Dave! Glad your ok. I had a buddy got hit on his way to his mothers viewing/funeral last week. His wife got a broken pelvis out of it, they were lucky though the guy never slowed down and hit em at highway speed. Ironically, his name is also Dave , Dave's have had a rough week! Hope next week is better and hope you were not driving the Runner!
was in my new to me truck. drove it home but will need some work.
Would probably be a lot more damage if it was a brand new truck. Glad y'all are OK.
