What 3 Bay Centerflow Hoppers Can MTH Make?

MTH did two pairs of ATSF -- the mineral brown and orange. The orange ones were indeed a correct color as Santa Fe tried insulating ACF hoppers for carrying refrigerated cargo. Would like to see a 6-car CNW set (green and yellow) and a 6-car ATSF set (mineral brown.) NO GRAFITTI.

I like the six car set idea a lot. I'd like to see: Santa Fe in mineral brown and large "Santa Fe" lettering again but with grain hatches this time. Santa Fe mineral brown "Quality" scheme. Lincoln Grain. A nice plain utilitarian grey paint job that will never make the cut in the world of three rail O choos. A pretty common real world car, though. RM

It's beyond me why MTH hasn't offered 6 car sets in Santa Fe, Burlington Northern, ADM, Union Pacific, etc...

 

The Santa Fe and Burlington Northern had large fleets of them. Keep it up guys!

I'd love to see single and multi car sets of both Crandic and Farmland hoppers

The Alaska Railroad ACF Center Flow Hoppers were 3560 Cu. Ft. Capy. just like the Lionel Plastic body, short ACF 3-Bay Covered Hoppers.

 

 

There is no way that the Canadian National or the Central Vermont ever had ACF Center Flow Hoppers.

 

The Grand Trunk Western had all the ACF Center Flow 3-Bay Covered Hoppers.

 

The closest thing that ever appeared in CN paint were the Trenton Works 3-Bay Covered Hoppers, and MTH already made them a few years ago.

Illinois Central never had ACF Center Flow covered hoppers.

 

The ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF ACF Center Flow 3560 Cu. Ft. Capy. 3-Bay Covered Hoppers were the same as the Lionel short ACF 3-bay Covered Hoppers, which LIONEL has to make in 2013. The ICG ACF hoppers were built in 1976.

Why would the BC Rail ever have an ACF Center Flow Covered Hopper?

Soo Line 1974 scheme has been done in 4 numbers

 

What has not been done are the other Soo Line variations.

 

1972-1973 big 250 car order which can justify a 6-car set in that scheme.

 

1975-1976 versions without the colormark slogan.

 

1980-1981 versions with Bright White body and the smaller SOO LINE graphics.

 

 

 

There might have also been several Chicago & North Western Green body and Blue Body ACF Center Flow 3-Bay Hoppers in the 1977-1980 time period.

Golden West Service GVSR and KCS would be great to see, provided the paint was a vivid blue and the coating was glossy, to look like a newly painted car during the 1992-1996 era.

 

The KCS variations would include Golden West Service.

Lincoln Grain with the Swirl graphic would be nice provided somebody got great close-up shots of the cars while they were in the original graphics. Or somebody might still have the original paint and decal graphics information for all the Lincoln Grain cars, after all these years.

COTTON BELT SSW St. Louis SouthWestern is the one that was so common for years that it would be overlooked for other cars.

 

 

Sclair is the product name of polyethylene from DuPont of Canada. That one has to be made sometime.

There is no evidence that the Green Bay & Western ever had an ACF Center Flow Covered Hopper.

 

The Family Lines System SCL and L&N are the ones that you forgot.

CRANDIC were built by Thrall Car.

 

The Farmland hoppers that passed through here were the Trinity 5161 3-bay Hoppers like ATLAS O already makes. Atlas might not have gotten to Farmland yet.

The FLIX Farmland Industries ACF Hoppers did exist, but I have not seen them in the past 15 years.

 

THe Missouri Pacific hoppers were originally Chicago & Eastern Illinois.

 

Illinois Terminal had ACF Center Flow 4650 3-Bay Covered Hoppers.

 

Some SP, SSW, KCS hoppers became CRLE, GVSR, KCS Golden West Service hoppers in 1992.

Good topic, there is certainly some holes to be filled regarding what hasn't been made. Since I grew up in SW Louisiana moving various times between New Orleans and Lafayette, I have a bias towards the SP and SSW cars. These cars were everywhere from the rice mills on branch lines and commonly plentiful within long main line trains.

 

I became fond of the ATSF mineral brown and red cars after moving to Dallas and seeing them everywhere. The quality scheme and the bold SF lettered cars are what I'm looking to add to my fleet. The BN cars would be welcome also, I've seen plenty of them in the DFW area.

 

I was supposed to start painting some of the SP and SSW cars this summer, but I'm a little bit behind on that. I got someone to make me some decals and now I need to start buying the cars. I want at least 20 of these cars. If MTH makes them, I would hope that they would do both SP/SSW and the ATSF in multiple 6 packs with different numbers.

I don't see a lot of Boston & Maine models out there? But I might not be looking hard enough either.

In HO Scale Atlas made a TrainMan line 3560 Cu. Ft. ACF Center Flow in the Boston & Maine scheme.

The closest match to that ACF Covered Hopper in that capacity is the Lionel short ACF 3-Bay Covered Hopper.

Thanks for correcting me on the CN and other hoppers. I had no idea, what other center flows do you think shoudl be made. If you were the marketing directer for MTH what would be the next 4 3 bay centerflows you'd choose.

There are BCOL reporting mark patches on secondhand ACF Center Flow 3-Bay Covered Hoppers. There are no BC Rail painted ACF 3-Bay Hoppers. It would be a fantasy scheme by now, since CN operates BC Rail.
