Hi all, can anyone recommend what AF pre-war 0 gauge loco would work well with these little cuties?

A red 1218 steeple cab electric would be a good match.
If we assume your consist is complete and not missing another coach then a reasonable guess would be a #617.
The reason for calling this a guess is the question of when American Flyer went from brass stampings for the car door details to decals. The 1933 catalog doesn't provide specifics with respect to brass details on the cars. The illustration above gives the impression of decal doors but that is all.
The other reason for the qualifier is, if you are missing a coach, then the 1934 catalog has the Iron Duke headed by 3309. The 1934 catalog also shows a three car set headed by #617 but the consist is an observation and two coaches.

#3100 Boxcab- Vanguard(2 car) , Pathfinder and Counsellor sets.
#3110 MC Boxcab- Bear Cat
#3182 Steam- Red Bird
#3308 Steam- Iron Duke(4 car)
#617 Steam- Yukon
I think thats all. Probably some uncatalogued sets too,
Thank you very much for all the responses. I'll keep watching the big auction site for some of these suggestions.
American Flyer 3100 would look good with the cars.
As Chuck mentioned above; a red steeple cab would look good with them.
Northwoods Flyer

The red 1093 would have been one of the engines that came with these cars
