I want to upgrade an Atlas O scale VMV SD-35 equipped with Lionel TrainMaster Command featuring RailSounds. Would I be able to use an ERR Cruise Commander M board and still use the existing sound board?

Yes. So when you say upgrade you mean to Cruise? G
Right now it runs with TMCC but not to smooth. I think that this must be an early version of Lionel TMCC . So if i upgrade with the ERR board it will run smoother. And I assume it should just be a plug in to the mother board that exits in the engine. does that sound right?
How do I know if I have an TAS EOB board in the engine?

I found the original product announcement from Atlas here, but there was no mention of the TAS (Train America Studios) EOB (Engineer On Board) feature. I'd recommend taking the shell off and looking inside to confirm. If you see a main circuit board stamped with Train America Studios, then the Cruise Commander M will not work.

Atlas are pretty smooth runners, so if it is not smooth something mechanical may be an issue. The other tell for TAS is a flywheel with tach reader. The Straight Lionel TMCC is a mother board with R2LC, RS and a separate Motor Driver board (DCDR).
The DCDR is replaced with the Cruise M. The MB plug ins are the R2LC, RS Power and RS board. Motor Drivers stand alone with a harness connection. G
Thanks for the help...just checked looks like the Cruise Cmdr M will work.
