Using the Scale Speed Calculator, I determined the slowest cruise controlled scale running speed without stalling or stuttering, even up and down grades, is 1.68 mph or 2.69 km/h for my Polar Express FlyerChief Berkshire engine pulling five passenger cars having six-wheel trucks. To me, this is a mindboggling slow crawl for a rtr starter set which lists for $399 and cost me that amount with its additional two car add-on set.

So, what's the slowest scale speed of your favorite rtr LionChief starter set engine, LionChief Plus engine or any other make or model engine?

My Bachmann On30 4-6-0s can creep so slow that you can't immediately tell they're moving at all, sometimes. I have zero complaints about their slow-speed handling.

Ironic that as kids, we're all about how fast they'll go, but when we're older and still into model trains, we're likely going to want to know how slow they'll go!
