I use Easyliner - it is a thin, perforated rubber foam sheet maybe 1/8 to 1/16 inch thick  made for drawer lining, etc..  I get it at Lowes.  I cut it to fit underneath the pieces as I lay down the track.   I have to screw the pieces down which makes a hard mechanical contact from track piece to benchwork and that probably transmits noise somewhat, but this seems to help.

Hi Lee:

Thanks for your response and also to the other responders.  I will try that.  I was down at Lowe’s last night and didn’t see that product.  I guess I didn’t look in the right department.

Before posting this question I reread your article in OGR Run 256 and unless I missed it there was no mention of any material under the “streets” other than wood.

Regards,

I've used Liquid Nail and it works well, yes.  Takes a long time to harden though, and often I screw it down timorarily to cinch it down tight until the glue dries (and yes, I have forgotten to remove the screws sometimes).  Glue does avoid needing to screw it down but is not a lot quieter.  Not that it could be: I don't have much of a noise problem with 'Streets track (maybe it is because I do use that rubber sheeting, I don't know since I have never not used it or something similar), so I'm not loath to screw it in place when I really want it to stay there.

I think a bead of caulk would work well: it would both hold in place once hardened, and isolate for sound, too.  But I have not had noise problems with 'Streets like I did with Fastrack so I haven't tried it . . . I might though - an easy and quick method given that you have time to let the caulk harden for a  day or so, which I certainly do.
