What would you choose for the next 4 railroad & 2 private schemes on the Atlas PS-4750 3-bay covered hopper?

Santa Fe, Seaboard Coast Line, The Rock, Norfolk and Western are coming this year from the Atlas production plant in China.

Here are CSX hoppers 1 from the 1989 era,the 1 with fresh paint is from recent years.

Car 260945 is from car series 259000-260999. These 2,000 4750's were built for CSX  in the 1989-'90 time frame. Notice in the middle of the hopper is a small square box with the words,"a CSX Quality Car."  This logo was used on all freight equipment & I was told that it meant the car carrying this logo signified that the car was either built or serviced in a CSX Quality Shop,or as CSX called them,"Q Shops." As the freshly painted CSX hopper shows,this logo was dropped in later years.

I was also told that the paint on the '89-'90 cars used Valspar paint that corresponded directly to Federal Standardization Number 13711. The newer paint is a little different shade of beige,in my opinion,from the Valspar paint.

In fresh paint,the 260945 car with the Quality Car logo would make a nice model,while the 250833 car, would make a nice modern car with conspicuity striping.

Why is Atlas dropping back to 4 instead of 6 models? They need to offer decals for renumbering as they only offer 2 numbers for each model.

 Atlas offered the other SCL/L&N which no one can find.

Lionel would actually have a better chance of producing more since they bought the Weaver PS CD model. So far the name choices have been undesirable and limited. 

When did Atlas offer the SCL/L&N model? To my knowledge they've only done 1 LN/Family Lines System 4750 PS-2CD which was a Prototype done in the 1970s approximately 1977?

I'd like to see the SCL Family Lines car produced from that same time period and lettering style as is present on the LN car, plus the 1980-'81 4750s done in the new Family Lines System Scheme. This new scheme from the 1980-'81 time frame had SCL as well as L&N cars. I'd also like to see a SEABOARD SYSTEM 4750 produced by Atlas. My question is will I be too old to see the lettering before Atlas does this?

The Yellow SCL car released by Atlas is indeed a VERY WELL DONE MODEL,(thank you Atlas),of which I have 3 models. I recently relettered & numbered 1 car into SBD letters and car number and will probably letter 1 car for CSXT. This car was produced many years BEFORE the LN/Family Lines 4750 which makes no sense. It's an EXTREME RARITY to find the yellow hopper except in CSXT repaint anymore let alone the original SCL lettering because of the age and mergers since it's production. Atlas,I sent pic's of the models I'm speaking of and will resend if you're interested. Who's in charge of the choices at Atlas on car lettering? He's way out of time sink.

I agree about Lionel's cars and wish they'd take over the entire Weaver line. Weaver had great models that need reproduction and new models could be added. The only thing lacking on the Lionscale line,(ex-Weaver traincars),is the end reporting marks. Congrat's Lionel for keeping these models made in the USA.

Yes that was 1 out of 4 cars they did in that scheme. What they ignored was it's SCL brother in the same lettering scheme. I found all 4 cars over 2years,plus some duplicates which I changed over to an SCL car and a SBD. (Just changed the LN to SCL&SBD,not a pro job,but suits me,I guess that's what's important.Lol).

I don't know how Atlas stays in O Scale either & they have a LOT of nice cars,but they just don't seem to make the most out of them. But I have read many times it's a cost/demand issue. Based on that,I guess if we want something, we better make it,have it made, or get out of O Scale,you think? I have all the cars mentioned here in HO. I don't want to stir up a "hornet's nest" here,that's not my intent just trying to get my & others needs met in the only way I know how. I was told by my elders that "the squeaky wheel gets the grease," so I try to express my opinion. LOL

There are a few variations in the Family Lines SCL/L&N graphics and numbers. They only made one variation.

Good info. Al. I think companies get lazy after awhile. It would be so easy to review what hasn't been offered a make an attempt to produce something new as in the older cars. It would take someone who experienced the 60s,70s, and 80s in RR history to actually know what is still needed. I don't believe we have many of those people in the decision process. The young marketers are making an attempt to attract young folks into the hobby with electronic gimmicks. It wont work in my opinion. Not many are interested in that or trains anymore and don't have the big bucks to buy this stuff.

Maybe we will get lucky and see some new freight car production but it's a shot in the dark these days. I posted what needs to be produced many times through the years on here but it never gets made. You are correct, make it yourself as I have. Lost sales for the marketers I guess?

There are a few people who would love to get Missouri-Kansas-Texas PS-4750 covered hoppers from Atlas O. 

Tangent Scale Models made them in HO Scale.

Tangent also did the '80s Family Lines 4750s in both the SCL and L&N versions.
