You are not kidding. This has been a longtime coming. I just got the last NS Heritage engine on Friday so glad Lionel is making some progress. Funny how stuff in a catalog a year later is already in the basement yet others are not even here yet.
1) Conventional FM Trainmaster in orange and blue Lionel Lines to go with all the orange blue LL cars they have done in the past or anything else "Lionel" roadname for that matter.
2) Continuation of the Area 51 and AEC series. Possible blacklight station to show off cars with lights down. How about some lasers? I've seen them in cereal boxes. Can't be that hard or expensive to use. Aliens that move along with magnets, like the Lemax ice skating rinks.
3) A manually operated tinplate turntable. Turning a crank to line up tracks would be fun.
4) New operating cars. Come on.. we're still seeing remakes of ideas and technology from 60+ years ago. You want to attract a new generation? How about incorporating some new technologies, like dial an engine or switch tower for audible speaker control from your cell phone. Imagine the interaction between two individuals. I could actually already do it with multiple cell phones.
5) Incorporate a timer and milage measurement in engines, tenders, or cars of any sort; to turn running trains into a "game" that kids can play. Hint: Todays gamer kids love to play games!
6) Get some modern video game, trading card or movie/TV series sets. Parents will buy them as gifts for the kid who is hooked on any of the above. Won't be long before they want to "collect the set".
7) Rail gun set! Nothing but straight track and an engine **** bent on self destruction! Built so that it will "explode" (or a bunker) but survive to run another day. There's room for imagination on how to proceed here.

Why not offer more FUN in running trains? We have plenty of scale and prototypical, but kids don't care about any of that.
I would like to see these two engines with both the steam chest AND the whistle steam effects. Also use the same mechanism in the S3 to keep the engine and tender close. It is a great idea and looks much better.

This has been made before, but not with all the new features. (C&O Greenbrier)

This one is rare in o-gauge, PRR N1 2-10-2.

What would you like to see from Lionel in 2012?

1a.) I would like to see Lionel finally quit using the stick on windows for their 18" passenger car bodies and install them from the inside like the windows in the vestibule.
1b.) I would like to see Lionel produce correctly windowed 18" passenger cars in N&W without "Powhatan Arrow" on the side.
2.) I would like to see Lionel produce a fix for their backwards articulated mallet sounds.
3.) I would like to see Lionel deep-six the ridiculous crew talk and come up with something more in tune with real radio transmissions.
4.) I would like to see Lionel hire a project engineer that could properly research a locomotive (or cars, etc.) and see that said product is made correctly.
5.) I would like to see Lionel hire someone who is more sensitive to the needs of its customers and could give an intelligent answer (or even a reply) to questions posed to them on Talk-to-Us.

If you think that I am still reeling from the effects of a wild New Years Eve, you are very much mistaken!
Re-release the SD40T-2 with corrections made to eliminate the large gap between the trucks and the front/rear pilot steps, and with appropriately sized fuel tanks to distinguish between the original SP and Rio Grande units. Also with a red gyralite that is actually RED, and be able to turn it on or off.

Re-release of the scale cab forward AC12 with Legacy features, specifically with a smoke unit simulating the air compressor exhausts on the smokebox front as per the prototype. That would be cool.

I posted my request for the PE sounds diner car on Lionel's Facebook page, and they commented that the suggestion would be passed on. Facebook looks like a good place to post appropriate suggestions and comments if you want Lionel to see them.

I'd suggest that those who are on Facebook and are scale PE fans go to my wall post on Lionel's page and "like" it, and even second the suggestion.

Man i really want this bad to but i hope they hold off a year. my credit card is still warm.
Just a few mechanical items:

1. Please reverse the engine to tender couplings. I would like to see the hook end on the tender and the eye end on the engine. This way one would not have to lift a heavy engine with many delicate parts to couple the engine and tender together.

2 A small, engine terminal building/structure that straddles the track and has a carefully aimed nozzle that will blow out a shot of air when you position a balky steam engine under it that is not having smoke coming from the stack. Tired of having to blow down into the stack now to start the smoke from issuing from the stack at times. This building/structure could be placed anywhere on the layout and have small hoses and such hooked up to a small can of compressed air. Stop the engine under the nozzle and hit a button on your Legacy remote and a shot air air clears things right up.
