My 587 came in today too - I'll get her next week. Not to be that guy - but there are some differences from what was catalogued to what was delivered - no polished rods or white wall tires. I know some people like that and That's just fine - but I can't place faith in preordering if what I see in the catalog does not match what I receive.

And btw - @Peter Araujo - how about you say thank you to the people who posted pictures and videos??

I think Lionel is really moving away from the polished siderods since 2016, and its slowly just becoming a norm for these locomotives. As far as the whitewalls, it's nothing a little Testor's white paint and a tiny brush can't fix.

As far as I can see here so far, these locomotives came exactly as I expected, at least cosmetically.

Hello,

I heard that the new Mikados are going to have road specific whistles, I ordered 587 and it should be here in a few days. I heard that 587's whistle on the Lionel one was recorded from the real thing and that is why it sounds the same. Because Lionel also said that they are using road specific whistles, does anyone have a video of the other Mikados like the Pennsy, Grand Trunk, NYC or Union Pacific? I want to see what kind of whistle Lionel used in those or if Lionel just decided to use the 587 whistle in all of them.

Thanks!

I guess the black wheels are prototypical in a way if it's the case of the engine as of 1989.

I found a thread that talks about painting the tires: https://ogrforum.com/...els-on-steam-engines

Watch this set of NKP clips (nicely cleaned up action here) to see what their steam looked like in service - looks a lot like that snap above, just grimier:
