Building another permanent basement layout 2.0 having torn down 1.0 when our 3 oldest were still at home and needed basement space for socializing.

I'm using 6 channels (2 TIUs).  2 fixed on the outer mainline broken into 2 districts, 2 variable on inner mainline broken into 2 districts, 1 variable in the yard, and 1 variable on a trolley line (probably overkill to have its own TIU, but figure I'll give it its own transformer since I have channel and transformer available).  This way, I can run conventional engines in the yard and inner mainline. The two unused fixed channels will serve an elevated level if I get around to it.

I bought a Rev I from a fellow forum member and have used it at Christmas. I recently bought a Rev H1 TIU with PS2 printed on it to be my 2nd TIU. Then I found a NIB Rev L for a decent price, so I snagged it.  The Rev H1 and Rev I came paired with DCS remotes, the Rev L did not.

Any recommendations on which TIUs to use and which TIUs to use and which one to reserve as a backup?

Also, any suggestions about ensuring their on the latest (or at least same) firmware version before MTH folds?

You can insure they the latest release by downloading and installing DCS 6.1, the latest release.  I'd use the Rev. L on the mainlines and one of the others on the yards, etc.

How long are your mainlines?  Do you really need two TIU channels for each?

Thanks. I'll verify that they have DCS 6.1.

Yes, I do need two TIU channels per mainline. It's due to lower power transformers than modern 180W bricks. I think we had this discussion on a separate thread. I'm using 2 postwar LWs on one mainline and 2 RWs on the other.
