I have a coal tower I know most here have seen it but I'm really proud of it.
It took about 3 months to build but I'd do it again. I don't know how to explain the satisfaction of seeing it and knowing I built it. I know a guy with your ability Frank knows what I mean.
It's monster but weather I have the lights on at night or daylight I just never get tired of looking at it.

I tore down the layout and started another one but I did save the platform so I can use it again, hopefully I'll have it up soon....

Thanks so much Keith ,
I was thinking the same of you when you did that build on brian's car.
Being in his shoes some 15 years ago no one can imagine just what something like that means to a person.
I do a fair job at scratch building but I still feel humbled by some of the fantastic talent here on the forum. I guess it's from all my years as an N scaler where everything is sceniced but I can't quit building even though I now have a Carpet Central layout.
I guess you can put an N scaler in O scale but you can't take the N scale out of the O scaler LOL.
Here's another Frank I guess this is my second favorite:
I wonder where Vulcan is at? I always love to see his stuff
Frank you started this thread I'd like to see some of your stuff too.
Come on guys I know the talent here is boundless .Post some pictures already.
David
And regarding Vulcan's amazingly gifted craftwork, I cannot imagine how he could possibly select just one as his favorite! But I sure am eager to see what he does have to say.
SIRT, I bet you'd have a hard time selecting your favorite scene or piece, too, huh.
And that's just two of the many, many gifted hands present on this forum - so many treasures; so little time....
Frank
Below is what one sees when they top the stairs coming up to the train room...
Great thread Frank!!
Alan
Ok. Ok. So, let's amend the purpose of this thread to request that you post your favorites - all of them that give you pleasure and pride in your railroad. I happily stand corrected. Let's see what you like a whole lot guys, as much as it gives you pleasure to share.
I'm sure we'll all have a rockn' good time of it.

...I mean, look at all this gorgeous craftwork, folks. Does it get cooler than this extent of detailing? This is beautiful and intelligent, in my viewpoint.
Thanks, David.

Hey PRRfan, Nt only is the shed a perfect treasure, the whole vista across that end of the layout is very enjoyable to see. Who could resist wanting to see more when visiting here?

Alan
The Alamo! I can't believe it, the Alamo! I mean, who has the guts to model such an historic treasure? Well, apparently, you do, Steve. Would you tell us about your motivation and some of the details of your effort to make these favorite scenes of yours?
Amazing.

You already know I love that platform, Paul, and enjoy seeing these shots of it, here, too.
But I have to tell you, folks, you should see the handcrafted passenger platform he did for his station scene. I hope when Paul rebuilds his relocated layout, he'll share photos of that platform, too.

Bob, That whole scene is positively vibrant w/ action. Though we are seeing a still-photograph, one can feel the action of the place. The craftwork is meticulous. I'm sure we can all see why it is a favorite of yours - much to be proud of.

Frank,
His shed reminds me of a scene I've been to before.I used to get around this area quite a bit when I worked at the power company. There's a little hamlet about 20 miles north of Roanoke off the old route 11 called Lithia . If you've ever read O.Winston Link's "Steam, steel And Stars" There is a picture in his book of a little boy ducking down trying to get out of the picture at an old run down mill. I've stood where that little boy was during that shot and just to the right of it on the N&W right of way is a little shack that looks just like that shed.
Great work everyone keep em coming.

I have to say it would be a tie between my model of the Temple, Texas Santa Fe station (centerpiece of my layout) and the Alamo grounds.

Wow Steve I LOVE the Alamo. That scene is superb. I have a special affinity for the Alamo since my name is Davy Crockett.

Thanks Frank, accolades like that coming from someone with a real modeling talent like yourself really means a lot.
Here's the passenger station scene I built using a Lionel 132 station and Lionel 256 Freight station...
This is one of my most favorite shots of the old layout....
Paul
I see more on the weekend photo thread.
Keep em coming

My favorite scene overall is Horseshoe Curve as it appeared in the early 1950's. It was a challenge to get the right "look" in O-scale and lots of photos were studied when planning and detailing it. I did need to tread water in the reservoir to get this photo!
This is a shot of the station at night.I did this to show on a thread a while back what can be done with home made LED's from Christmas lights which by the way is what I used on the coal tower.
If you tried to use a grain of wheat bulb in that phone booth, you'd have a blob of plastic in about 10 minutes but LED's don't put out any heat.

I've not been much of a craftsman and have always admired and appreciated the work of those who are.
Here are a few on our layout that I like. This is an old kit that we put together many years ago. It's been beat up and repaired along the way.
The scene needs a lot more done to make it really nice.
I enjoyed elevating this switch tower and building the superstructure out of 'things on hand'.
The K-Line Mikado was part of an equipment exchange that brought the Lionel Erie Berkshire to our railroad.
It took me a second to figure out that was the bascule bridge it blends so well with the surrounding scenery.

Luke Skywalker: Noooooooooooooooooo!
what? oh, you mean railroad.
Well then
The ending shot of North by Northwest when the SP passenger train goes blasting into the tunnel.
what? oh you mean Model Railroad.
Well then
Any picture where I see model railroaders enjoying this great hobby regardless of age, scale or gauge just like the great pictures already posted! Nice work everybody!
Dang pesky S Scale...

My favorite building by far -- maybe the favorite thing I have on my layout -- is Lionel's Cowen's Corner Hobby with its three model train layouts with tiny model trains actually running on each. Models of model trains! Incredible.
Sorry but this photo, which I actually took to get a shot of the tractor trailer (much modified/bashed Superstreets vehicle) is the only photo I have that shows it. The five-sided bank next door to it is something I bashed/scratchbuilt from DPM building pieces to fit the awkward space the hobby shop left at the corner.
This is my fav as it is my first attempt at building a mountain and doing any sort of scenicing or painting backdrops.

I must say James, For a first effort that is quite something. You have just the right touch of everything there.
