I might buy a culvert loader and culvert unloader for my layout. I think Lionel made 3 versions as follows:1. Original in the later 50's, 2. Newer remake, and 3. Command Control.
If this is correct, which one/ones work the most trouble free?

The Number 3 is almost fool proof! I have had one on my Layout ever since they were issued & ❤️ it! Once you get it in place & Fine Tuned, you never have to touch it!! Kudos to Lionel on this one!!

Fred, if your command control culvert loader and unloader are still working OK, you are one very lucky guy!
I have seen nothing but problems from this pair. The later conventional control versions seem more stable.
I have a 346 unloader that works without issues.

I recently purchased the postwar 342 and 345. Couldn't be happier. Both work great! I personally stayed away from the newer models because of bad things I heard about the electronics.
