Isn't the whistle steam a separate smoke unit, with a separate fill location? Did you read your owner's manual?
Saw nothing about a separate fill
There is only one fill point for smoke fluid and mine works fine and I use Mega Steam Coal Fired Smoke.
Mike
Used Lionel premium in it
Either that switch, or the switch for the stack smoke, gave me trouble at first. I forget ... it corrected itself.
Good luck.
Confirmed switch is on
There’s no Lionel parts breakdown for this model as far as I can see but I’d guess it probably uses the standard dual chamber smoke unit shown below:
There’s only one smoke fluid fill point with these and that is through the main stack. It relies on the flow of smoke fluid under the divider (part number 2) between the chambers to get fluid to the whistle smoke chamber, which is not a sure thing with these units if you’ve put in a minimal amount of fluid.
Do you detect any heat/air through the whistle opening when you trigger the smoke feature? You should have both.

Have you tried an engine reset? Maybe turning the switch on and off a few times.
I don't not get any hint of heat from whistle air I hit the reset a few times
If you don't get a hint of any air, something else is wrong. However, if you feel air flowing, you may need more fluid.
Could the heating resistor be bad ? The main smokes up a strom
If the heater were open, I'd think you'd be getting a blink code. Also, if there's no air, the fan isn't running, that wouldn't be affected by a problem with the heater.
I just tried it again after sitting over night the main stacked heated up and puffed with in seconds Nothing out of the whistle except cool air

Have you tried it with the AUX smoke switch set to off. Lionel has wired smoke switches backwards in the past.
Thank you everyone for your help I tried the aux switch nothing even cycled it while running the smoke generator
XXL,
As this is a weathered version of the Y6 it is possible that when the weathering was done and reassembled a tube that carries the smoke fluid to the whistle smoke unit got pinched or a wire got disconnected. If you are technically challenged like me I would call Lionel on Monday or if you have one of the Forum repair guys near you (Alex M, Marty F, or GRJ) see if you can get them to check your Y6 out. May be something simple and inexpensive.
JohnB
John b you are right totally possible I probably Could take it apart I am just like it's brand new why should I have to do it and if it was something else it could be corrected right there if it was out of warranty I'd probably open it up my self
If you are getting air through the whistle outlet but no heat and no cab light light blinks, I’d guess something is wrong with the whistle smoke switch. I think that only controls power to the heater.
Alternatively, and although I didn’t think these smoke units have thermistors like some VL smoke units, the part photo I posted above appears to show thermistors on the underside of the smoke unit board; if the whistle side one is too close to the heater it could be stopping it from heating enough. In any case I can’t see that this problem was caused during weathering.
P.S. I and others have had thermistor placement issues with the VL Big Boy's blowdown smoke feature, which like the whistle smoke on the Y6b also has a long tube connecting the smoke unit to the output(s).
Thanks e drone called Lionel they are shipping it back for repair I 'll let everyone know what they find shipping after Christmas to many box kickers
Look at what JohnB stated.
I am considering buying one of these, other than the smoke issue which seems to be an epidemic issue with Lionel, if you have are you happy with the purchase?
Got mine back works great nice engine I'd buy it the smoke gen was rebuilt no no issues
Got a new AC-9 6-84248 at the end of October; smoked like a champ out of the box - stack and whistle; then being the destructor of smoke units (maybe too much smoke fluid this time), both stopped. Back to Lionel; returned after 7 elapsed days upon arrival at Lionel; fixed with new fan motors; Lionel service is tops.
I bought one at a bargain price from someone, it runs like a top, smoke has never given me any issues.
