Hi All,

So my son's DC commander board or maybe just the RL4 board has gone out.  At first we couldn't get the engine to run but we had sound and then there was no sound and the engine could run and now there is nothing, no response whatsoever.  Checked all the connections and everything looks ok, just no movement or sound.  I looked at All Aboard Trains where I usually get my chips but it looks like they are out of everything.  Anyone else selling these chips?

Thanks for your help

The ERR DC Commander is no longer in the ERR lineup, it will not be restocked.  The replacement is the ERR Cruise Commander, a much better product with the same footprint.

You can plug in an R2LC-C08 (or later) version to see if it's just the receiver board that is out.  Totally dead with no lights would suggest to me a power wiring issue, not a dead board.

HI John

Thanks for your input!  We have lights but no sound or motion.  At one point the loco ran as if it were without a command control board, like an old postwar model running on whatever the transformer gave it and then it quit completely.  Very odd.

Cheers

Roger

The Cruise Commander and AC Commander both use the R4LC-C08 board, it's exactly the same functionality as the R2LC-C08 board and it's electrically and functionally interchangeable.

The CC and ACC come with the R4LC-C08 board as part of the package.

Like I said, all you really needed I suspect was the R2LC (or R4LC) with the -08 version software.

HI John,

Thanks for your help!  I got the new board today and plugged everything in including the sound board.  The engine runs great but the sound board has no sound at all.  I double-checked my connections and everything is where it bought to be.  Is it possible the DC Commander board fried the R4LC and the sound board?

Seems crazy all three boards would go bad like that.  I though about using the old board and putting on the new R4LC but I was concerned that if the DCCom was bad would it fry the R4LC?  I'm thinking about sending all three boards to Sunset Models to see if they can see which one or ones is/are bad.

Cheers

Roger Elliott
