In my recent gift of Lionel Set 1500 from 1953 was an elelctric motor. Having had a motorized Erector set I knew that it wasn't Gilbert. I never had a Lionel Construction set....but it doesn't look like any of the ones in the old catalog pictures....any thought anyone?

Thank you for the picture. With the reduction gears, it is unmistakedly Gilbert......my personal failings are now exposed........not being mechanical, I lack the ability to extrapolate from a machine picture.

I only think in 2 dimensions. For instance, every layout I have ever designed is flat. I cannot envision anything with a grade.

That is why the collective knowledge of this Forum, so freely shared, is so valuable!

So were RW, A, S, R 1041 Lionel, American Flyer and Marx transformers!

I don't use metal cased transformers, and when the subject arises, I recommend that people set them side, and use a transformer with a plastic case.
I also suggest that cords be carefully inspected for cracks, including flexing the cord to see if any cracks develop.
And finally, I like to see all transformers used with external manual reset circuit breakers, or something similar.
