A recent Trains magazine article said that EMD had 15 of the SD70 Tier 4 demonstrators that are still being tested in different parts of the country by different railroads. Some had also been previously tested at the Pueblo, CO testing grounds. They also said UP had agreed to purchase all the demonstrators so the last 10 ( I think it was) of them were painted in the UP color scheme. It was the September issue of Trains. I might be a little off the total numbers (old memory), but I think that's pretty close. I don't recall reading anything about any other orders or if there had been any?

The CP & NS merger is no more.

i heard union pacific is ordering a few of them but thats it

what about csx and ns

and is that cp ns merger cancelled or are they still going at it

bridget would know

The CSX demos have been running on the Short Line and Mainline Sub between Cincinnati and Nashville for the past 6-8 weeks. They were very problematic when they first arrived and shut the railroad down several times giving crapping out on single track. Why CSX didn't put a third unit DIT as a back up in case it was needed I won't understand. CSX still has them hauling freight on the line so they must be getting more reliable each day. The CSX demos are in full UP colors with Electro Motive in place of Union Pacific down the long hood and the EMD logo in place of the wings.

I will comment the horn on the demos is very pleasing in today's modern horn sounds, which I think are awful. It sounds close to an old Southern Railway M5.
