Who besides me would like to see the MTH, Lionel etc. make a neutral color engine or piece of rolling stock that we then could paint & number with our own choice of road name & number. For instance MTH comes out with a SD70ACe in CSX road name and in addition to that add a gray colored engine, without any markings, that we can paint to our liking. Anybody for it?

You wouldn't see a 35% price reduction for undecorated.  Most undecorated stuff troughout the ages carried the same price as decorated.

Besides, it seems that even Athearn has abandoned undecorated products in HO.

I'd be all for it....but feel I am in the minority among O scale 3 rail folks. As it is I just buy good deals on mass produced items and repaint them.......like the WbB Dash9

I come from a HO scale background and built a lot of my trains.....and now I enjoy doing the same in O......but yes......not many in the scale to support it.

I'd be all for it.   But we are in a minority and it would never be 35% less.

Another idea is to do rolling stock without numbers but with the rest of the paint scheme, and let us do our own numbers.    I have to have each car with a different number for my switchlist operations.

I have tried to strip some MTH stock and it was a disaster.   I could find nothing that would remove the lettering.   I found some stuff that would melt the plastic arouind the letters, and still not touch the letters.   And if you paint over old lettering it shows through as a shadow or "ghost".   Not the color, but the outline.

As a consequence I only buy MTH stuff lettered and painted the way I want.

I have damaged some of the other bodies such as weaver and Atlas, but I have marred the paint removing liettereing.
