Here is the latest upgrade. This was much harder than the MTH Cab Fwd upgrade because of the style and orientation off the harness connectors. Clearly the hardest upgrade I have done to date. This upgrade included smoke, so I had to manufacture a mounting surface, go to a shorter Lionel fan motor, custom make all the engine harnesses to allow for full maintenance and separation of Boiler from chassis, smoke from boiler, etc... I suppose you can be thankful for all the extra space inside. Still, entire upgrades do require a great amount of pre-planning, on top of harnesses, adding smoke, lighting and such. Looks like you've got the major hurtles behind you. Nice going!

George, I feel your pain LOL!!!! I've been through this before. But you have done a top notch installation.

George, is that the beast you were working on when I came over???
I don't see the kitchen sink in there, but everything else appears to have found a place
Nice job,, My hardest was a Weaver Hudson dealing with big hunk of lead in the boiler.
How does yours pull?
Well done George. People have no idea what can be involved doing upgrades. Most MTH locomotives are no problem, others can be.

Thanks guys, Yes Bob. Despite the room, you would be surprised at the interferences. Small bracket inside boiler I had to drill holes in to snap it off. The Plunger pin under the boiler that rides in a bracket on the chassis was right were the smoke unit fan was, so I had to ensure smoke was forward, and the normal MTH Fan was too long, I had to go with the Lionel short version. This one is going down to a museum in Florida. I forgot to take a picture of the boiler plate that spelled Pennsylvania, Pennsilvania.
GREAT JOB. I have a Williams brass cab forward! I love that engine, GREAT JOB.
Super job. Very neat installation.
Outstanding conversion, George. Now I know where to send mine when I get some spare funds.

Alex--
"Feel your pain"? Are those the "major hurt-les" of which Bruce spoke?
Seriously though, George, you are truly a miracle craftsman on these conversions! It's just as well you're a few hundred miles away from me! Were you down the street, around the corner, I'd probably go 'broker' finding one conversion after another to have your magic touch applied!

Nice job George, some of the brass stuff does present special hurdles when doing upgrades. I have that locomotive waiting for a TMCC upgrade. Some of your details about mounting, etc. will come in handy.
I find many times getting the tether connectors to fit properly is one of the PITA jobs.
TMCC should be a little easier. One thing is to reuse the motor and AC leads. Since they are already run in black. If your not running your tach you can just sent the markers and HL back to the rear where smoke is, and just run up smoke and light control. Plenty of room in the tender. G
LOL The spelling lesson did not go unnoticed. Wish I could say that's how we spell hurdle in Canada...but it ain't!
Bruce
George, I suspect any future upgrades will use my tach board, it's so much easier and less messy than the magnets and reed switches.

Maybe there's a place on the planet that the spelling is correct, let's check... You're safe, at least it's a word.

Link, please.
I just want to say THANKS for the photos. Williams Cab Forward is on the upgrade to-do list. Lots of great info and ideas in those photos.
Rex, it's still in late beta stage, I haven't gotten production commitments yet. It's described in this forum thread: Super-Chuffer Chuff Generation Enhancement

Always a good idea to read your referenced thread...
That cute little guy looks like a young John Elway. He must be giving a go Broncos.

Yep, it'll be a separate item.
Great job G. Hope my conversions are as successful as yours have been.
Hi George, Have the same Williams Cab Forward. What is trick to remove the boiler? Thanks, Paul
Just 3 screws, one under front pilot truck in center, and the 2 on the vertical surface on the rear of the cab. G
