I have a Lionel O27 layout that started with a train I had as a kid back in the mid 1950s.  The layout is on a 4' by 8' platform.  In the last year I tried to expand things a bit with new switches and track for the benefit of my two 3 year old grandsons, but some of the stuff is showing its age and getting more temperamental than me.  I am thinking about starting over with newer equipment, but would like to migrate some of my grandsons' favorites to the new layout.  One favorite is a Lionel Barrel Car and Loader.  The Barrel Car currently works with an OTC Contactor to load and unload the barrels.  I have not found anything similar in Atlas or MTH tracks.  I noticed in some older posts that people ran the barrel car off a standard Lionel decoupler.  Does any one know if it would work with a Atlas O Scale 1 3/4" uncoupling track?

This is my first post since joining the forum, and I thank you all in advance for your advice.

For Atlas, you need the Accessory Rails #6097, which mount on any 10" Atlas straight section.
The short 6059 magnet section is only for magnet-operated unloading cars and couplers.

The MTH Realtrax track is 40-1008, which is functionally identical to the Lionel UCS (45-1035 Scaletrax)

You also could transition to tubular and use your existing OTC and/or UCS as needed.

*Note that the Barrel car wiring dictates that only one slideshoe/ truck should be in contact with the "live" control rail, or the car will short out since the other control rail (properly wired) is common to the outer track rail.
