What is the purpose of the Constant Voltage Board and Can it be removed without causing problems with the operation of the Engine.

I do no know which engine you have but I assume if it is a CV board it is for the lighting. I am a bit confused.

As Dale says, which engine? I know that some engines with the Seuthe smoke unit have a CV board to power the smoke unit.

the Engine in Question is a Williams 2-6-4 Girls Set Engine
and you both are right the Constant Voltage board is for both the headlight and the Suethe Smoke unit.
In doing a bit of Modification to this engine I found that I needed to remove the Constant Voltage Board to make room for a fan driven Smoke unit. So I bit the Bullet and removed the board and installed the unit and replaced the Headlight with and Evans Design 3 MM Cool White LED
You can "sky wire" a 6V regulator, bridge, and capacitor to create the 6V for the smoke unit if you need the space. You can just put the components in a piece of heat shrink and stick them anywhere in the shell.
OOPS, need to read better, I see you added the fan driven smoke, a worthwhile addition!

yes it is and it smokes just like an MTH PS1 Steam engine
These Units from Boxcar Bill are the Bomb this is the second engine I have done and I am most impressed
