What kind or harness or plug is needed to download to the module?

Module is plugged into Legacy base. legacy Y cable is connected to the base and a serial port on a Windows computer
Download the update to your computer from Lionel and using LSU load the update to your base with the module plugged into it.

Can you use the usb port on the laptop?
You need a serial to USB adapter.
You can also use Lionel's Wifi module instead of your computers serial port/USB port.
That's only if you can get the blankety-blank LCS WiFi to connect to your network.

John's trouble aside, you can always use in Access Point mode to do this. The PC will access the LCS WiFi module directly.
