I have a Z-4000 (serial # 039813683) connected to a TIU (Updated to Version 5) Fixed 1&2 . Also power is being supplied to Variable 1&2 via ZW and a Radio Shack transformer is supplying permanent power to the TIU. The variable power is controlled via the remote using the Track selection for Variable power. All of a sudden now, when you apply power to either Fixed 1 or 2 , the other side of the Z-4000 turns on and reaches the same voltage of the side that is turned on. If I disconnect the power from Fixed 1 or 2 the Z-4000 acts as it should. Is the TIU brain scrambled or is it something else.

Any chance one of your insulated center rail joints has let go and is making contact .? turn off power to fixed 1 &2 , leave power on the var channels using the TR and push a lighted car through fixed 1 & 2s territory. (or use a volt meter) Fixed 1 & 2s track should remain dead.
You have a short between the center rail of the tracks connected to fixed 1 and the center rail of the tracks connected to fixed 2.
I do not think that its a short between the center rail between Fix 1 and 2. The power goes through a control panel with on and off switches. With both track 1 & 2 which are powered by Fix 1 and 2 are turned off and I still get the problem. My voltmeter reads zero when I check the voltage with the switches in the off position. Also, when running a continuity check the 4 outer rails light up the checker when I check across them, However, when I check the center rail there is no continuity. The power goes from the TIU to the control panel and then to the track. I'm beginning to believe the problem is in the control panel.
OK with nothing connected to the Z-4000 what happens when advancing one throttle ?
It acts the way it should. The power comes up. Advance and the other side stays at whatever power setting you had set.
You have a short in the Hot circuit somewhere in your control panel, or between the transformer and the control panel. It really cannot be anything else.
Long shot but really easy to try.. Turn the wall plug the other way around on your PWZW.
Did you phase the ZW and z-4000 together?

Barry is absolutely correct, you have a short some place causing your problem. Check your wiring.

I did phase the Z-4000 and the ZW. The ZW is on the variable 1 & 2. I had a very low voltage, when I finished phasing. Also, I had that circuit shutdown and the Variable 1 & 2 disconnected from the TIU. The problem appears to be with Fix 1 & 2. I just checked and variable 1 & 2 appear to be working properly. The problem appears to be a short in the control panel or the wiring to it.
I suppose turn on all the toggles to " on" on one channel leaving the other toggles off on the other handle. Does the voltage still show up on the other handle.. Is so start turning them off one by one. I guess repeat the same thing with the other handle. Hopefully by the time you read this you have it fixed.
