Hello all!

does anyone know if there are 18vac screw mount bulbs ( smaller size-fits Lionel 153 block signal socket) available and from who? The traditional screw mount bulbs seem to be rated for only 14vac. All of my accessories, switch machines and signals run off of fixed 18vac. Am I doomed forever to wear out bulbs prematurely, or is there a bulb made to fix this?

Also-

Can a traditional Lionel signal bridge be wired to a Gargraves DZ1000 switch machine display différent aspects according to switch position (I.e: lined to cross over: displays NORAC Medium Clear red over green, lined straight/normal: displays Clear)? Is there a diagram available? Maybe a book?

Also Also-

Can anyone recommend an 18vac relay and where to find it? Maybe the same for diodes and flashing devices? I’ve been at a loss since Radio Shack closed, and I’m trying to wire my interlockings to perform as the real thing (displays correct aspect for proper switch position and/or block occupancy). AC makes it a little challenging.

Also Also Also

Is there a 1 over 1 over 1 searchlight interlocking signal ( w/ separate red, yellow, and green inputs available at each signal head) on the market? MTH made a nice lookin and reliable diecast 1over 1 searchlight signal, but it is really just an ABS signal as it has no separate yellow input and thus can only display Clear, Stop, and Medium Clear.

Any help/advice/comments/schematics/diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Frank M.

A few options on the accessory bus & bulbs:

Thoughts on Relays:

There are many cheap relay boards out there like the one pictured below that run on 5VDC (but can switch 18VAC)

You then just tap your AC control circuits (buttons, insulated rail sections etc) and pass them through an LTV-844 or similar optocoupler (with current limiting resistor) to then signal the 5VDC Relay on the relay board. Now, this is not the only solution, just one I use and found to be extremely cost effective.

Good Morning,

There is a place in Jacksonville, Florida that sells a lot of light bulbs for electric trains. Its called Bulb Town. Their phone number is 1-800-413-9847. They will paint light bulbs, if you you ask for them red and green price 1.95 each. Another place for light bulbs would be The Train Tender. Phone number 585-229-2050.

Frank,

Although many Radio Shack stores have closed, Radio Shack is not out-of-business.  See: radioshack.com.
