Yes, the phone was backed up. But the strange thing was that the photos did not appear until the roster loaded from the base. I agree it is probable the images are being pulled in with some other mechanism and that it is less likely they would be on the base. But ultimately, what I found interesting was that there is apparently some mechanism to transfer them unknown to me, so it made me think it might be possible to implement the same using the Base 3 / Cab3.

I think we just wait for Lionel to add an export/import function like the MTH Wi-Fi app does.  Restoring entire backups from iCloud every time you want to add a new engine picture is not a solution.  Not to mention you can't do that between different devices like iPhone and iPad anyway.

Is anyone having trouble with the switch roster? I have switches 2-10 programmed but the only one that shows up in the roster is #3. I’ve had a couple email exchanges with the help center and they’re aware of it. This is what I see when opening the switch roster. Not sure why there’s 2 #3’s? I saved the switches just like the engines which are all there. All in all, it’s a pleasure running my layout with this system.

I manually keyed on my switches and routes and so for no issues on any of them.  I was hoping to import them from the CAB 2 since those were keyed in using the CAB2 remote.   After testing the LCS app, my switches worked even though they were not entered in the CAB3 app.   A few years ago, I created a spreadsheet of all my legacy engines, switches, routes and accessories.   I used the LSU to get the values.    

This time I loaded the CAB3 app on the MAC (Silicon) and cut and paste my switch names from the spreadsheet.   Entering them in on the CAB3 app for the MAC was pretty quick and I used my iPad running LCS app to confirm they worked.  

The CAB3 APP work well on the MAC, but do not plan on using it too often except for data entry.

This time it worked! Not sure why it didn't work the last 3 tries. BTW, it took several (many) swipes down to get to the base details screen, but all wells that ends well. Is there any trick to swiping either up or down with the Lionel APP?

My layout name now displays in my Legacy controller as changed when I power it up.  Nice!

Yes, when you swipe down do it from the middle Not the top.  If you play with you will see where to swipe from each direction.  It’s not as obvious as you would think.

Thanks for the info. My layout is pretty basic with no LCS modules. I’m finding it odd that no one else is experiencing this switch roster problem. After multiple times of programming the switches and saving to the base, it still shows just switch #3. Quite puzzling 🤔.

And you don't even need to run them over the SensorTrack.

That's obviously little consolation for existing Legacy locos. Engines from 2022 and beyond, you can at least run over the SensorTrack and get the same information.

But we included the ability to take your own photo for a reason. It's much nicer that those stock images.

As for saving/transferring those images. iCab utilized your iTunes account to save and transfer them. We've not done this (yet) with Cab3. And we'd have to figure out a way to do it with Android. But it'll be coming at some point.

As others stated, the Base3 itself does not store images. Only text. Hence why we rely on the APP/Smart Device to do that part.

Has anyone had success getting their Base3 to join their home network by supplying the SSID & Password, hitting Set, and then flipping the switch to 'Network' when the SSID has spaces in it?  Whenever I do, I get a flashing L, and it never appears on my network.  Wondering if it's a me-issue or a base3-issue.

No problems using it in AP mode, it's just not ideal for my situation.

Do you know how much information on the website has changed since Base3 was released?  A lot.

Not only that but it's laid out for quick access to the various components and topics.  The online site is much more valuable than any paper manual.  Updated at a moments notice.  I'll take the website over flipping through a manual any day.  This is the way 95% of products have their documentation.

Me too -- I've tried several dozen times, both using WAP and SSID but no joy. Very frustrating.

Hey Marty, not liking on line manuals is a generational thing.  Won't disagree with the prompt updates though.  As I mentioned in my post there are a lot of bug fixes needed.  This board could be an important source of those to Dave Olson. Anyhow, when I'm lying in bed at night reading my desktop computer, I hate when it hits me on the bridge of my nose! (when I fall asleep) :-)

I'm sure Dave is keep tabs on the forum and seeing what issues need to be addressed and what needs updated in the online documentation.  To think otherwise would be silly.  Make sure you keep bandages on your night stand for your nose.  .  BTW I'm coming up on 60 and prefer the online manual for things like this that are in flux. Each their own.

I just went into the config utility, set my SSID and Password while in AP mode.  Flipped the switch from AP to Network; and it connected right away and shows up in my Routers Wireless connected devices.  Make sure you enter the SSID and Password observing case.  Both entries are case sensitive. This should be a fool proof way to connect to the network (WPS can be finicky).  Also, no special characters should be used in the SSID and Password other than "underscore".

The flashing "L" means you did not authenticate to your router.  That indicates the SSID or PW is not correct.

Jon, I really appreciate your post because it forced me to think a little deeper about the issue because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I have two TV's, a firestick, two iPads, 3 iPhones, an Xbox and a Sonos sound system connected via SSID and never had an issue. But your comment about it being something about the SSID/password keep bugging me and tonight I found the answer: the SSID I've been using "THE MATRIX" has a space in the name. By chance I googled SSID name restrictions and noticed -- as you said -- that special characters including SPACES are generally a no-go. So I removed the space from the SSID name, reconnected all my devices and VOILA! The base3 connected via Network! The base3 is the first device in 20 years that failed to connect because the SSID contained a space! Anyway, I'm a happy camper now, so a big THANK YOU for pointing me in the right direction!

We know it disconnects if it goes to the Lock Screen, so I am guessing it must be the same if it goes into Power Saving mode since you are experiencing it (although I would not run trains if your battery were that low in your phone). 

I never have my battery that low so have not experienced it. 

We are hoping for a future fix where it won't disconnect for either situation, but that is how it works right now.

Thank you for the hard work you guys are putting into this and listening to us folks with OCD about our trains.

I know this Base3 will be "The one base to rule them all!" when you get some of these kinks nailed out.

I am going to repeat what has been said. TMCC/ERR/CAB1 loco's and the CAB3 app have a known issue where throttle is being sent as absolute value, not relative to current velocity. If you have these types of locos, you may want to use a CAB1L remote (or full CAB2) until that is resolved in app. I know its not what everyone expected, but its good to have a backup device.

Garfield, The Telit WiFi module makes the connection to the router and the rules for the SSID are out of Lionel's hands.  The module has its own operating system and all we can do is send in the SSID and PW entered by the user to the module and ask it to connect to the router (with a 2 minute timeout timer).   I am glad that "TheMatrix" without spaces now works, love that name!

A dedicated device (if, possible) can take care of those issues.  I started with a dedicated Samsung Galaxy 9+ that had been taken out of phone service some time ago and it worked just fine other than I then wanted a bigger screen.  I picked up the 59.00 version of the Fire 7", set it to full brightness and 30 minute non-use before sleep mode kicks in.  It is always on the charger when the trains aren't running... so it's always 100% charged when the trains are fired up and uses about 12% of battery power per hour of use.

1000% agree. Until I got a Fire 7 and now Fire 8 tablet ONLY for the train apps, I had all the same issues with the iPhone. If you’re gonna use the apps, invest in a dedicated device.

Yes @JamesR I use the Cab3 app on my fire tablet. I will link the instructions I used below, however you can google putting google play store on fire tablet and get a YouTube vid. It’s a multi step process but should not discourage you. I’m very computer illiterate, and I did it twice. Once for my old tablet and then again for my fire 8.
