New bug to report. If you try and Clear an Accessory, it will clear it but the app crashes each time and then you have to reopen it and reconnect.
@ToledoEd posted:Sean, first, thanks for posting excellent videos about implementing and using the Base3 and Cab3 App. Yes, I have disconnected the Base2. Found that out the hard way!😁. Reading the info on the Lionel site is important.
Thanks, trying the best I can but I am learning too and had to make some corrections in the next video. I am no expert.
Well here it is: I have permanently instaled BASE3 into my Layout. Pictures attached! I now can run Bluetooth APP, CAB1L, CAB2, Base3 / App. Still strugling with BASE3 / App. However with all the help we are getting from SEANS TRAIN DEPOT, It really Helps.
THANKS SEAN!!!! CUDOS to YOU!!!!
I should ADD to my POST: I remember Dave saying the BASE3 had the same "FOOTPRINT" Physicaly as the BASE2. Well, he was right! I only had to recess my Mounting Platform 1/16 of an inch at each end, and it droped right in!!!! KUDOS to Dave, AGAIN!!!

After 9 pages of comments do you guys think the cab3 is kid friendly? I hope so.
I think so. My 5 year old grandson can do it with some supervision. Im confident that Lionel will get the Cab3 app corrected. The potential for significant enhancements are also possible.
just a quick question guys. I got the wifi modual a couple of years ago after watching seans video on doing firmware updates. my apartment wifi sucks. so connecting my computer to the wifi modual is much easier and faster.
with the legacy system utility updating my base and cab2 and making backup moduals is now do able and easy for me at least. I always struggled in this area for some reason.
now while I understand the base 3 will make this even easier. my question is if one does not get the base 3 and needs to update there cab2 down the line for any reason.
will the new Version of the legacy system utility be able to update the cab2 if ever needed?

I would think the 2 apps would remain separate and you use whichever one goes with the system you are working on, but I could be wrong. I might have missed that info.
(repost from another thread)
Accessories: (Serial) I have two such operating accessories. Here’s what I’ve experienced.
- AMC/ARC Gantry Crane (6-24206): Icons appear and correspond to the icons on the Cab2. The Crane motor traverses much smoother than the Cab2, but in only one direction. The Cab2 Throttle controls direction-clockwise/counter clockwise. Cab3 will only go in one direction- counter clockwise. The Red Throttle does not appear, instead the speed limit dial appears. Sounds (I have the work house), magnet and boom operate as they should in response to the icons. (I used the iCab App and crane direction responded as the Cab3. One direction only (counter/clockwise) when I held down the "off" icon. Motor movement was smooth and quieter. It will dump the logs if you swipe to the speed steps and push the max speed step. It's clunky, but it works. This is not available on the Cab3 App)
- Log Loader (6-24115): The “Boost/Brake” icons work. The F/R coupler icons work and turn the lights on/off. As with the Gantry Crane motor, the motor is quieter and smoother. ISSUE: the Cab2 dumps the loaded log by turning the Throttle. The Cab3 will display the Red Dial Throttle, but no matter which direction it’s turned, the log dumper mechanism is not activated. I pushed every icon and combination, nada.
- Bottom line keep the Cab2 and Legacy 1-L handy. If you want to control these accessories via WiFi keep the iCab handy as well.

Sean…..your videos are brilliant……I have 25 Legacy and TMCC locos loaded and my last major stumbling block, hooking to my home network via the Cab 3 app, has been accomplished while paying careful attention to your 3rd video.
If you make it to the October, Thursday AM, pre-York breakfast at Round-the-Clock, your breakfast is on me…… it’s the least I can do to thank you for all your hard work!
Bravo!
I think I like the app better than the Cab 2 Remote……..I have stubby, arthritic fingers…..expanding the screen on my IPad is easier to use than the remote!

ooops…….one more engine to put in…..my PWC 44 TMCC Army Mobile Missile launcher and Sound car……
Anyone able to lash up TMCC/ LC 2.0 locos together? When I am setting up a train, I’m only able to add Legacy locos. TMCC don’t show up in the available options.
As an update, after fiddling around with user interface on the Cab3 app, I finally was able to swipe down and get to the database management. After erasing the database, i was able to start over fresh. BTLE pairing is working per instructions, not assumptions.
Now.... to try some ERR/TMCC locos.
There are 3 BUTTONS on the CAB3 Start Up Menu I would like Explanations to:

Someone on my YouTube channel just told me how to set the engine Speed Limit, which I said was missing and could not find in the Cab3 app in Part 4. So now there is a 5 min video uploading as we speak to correct my mistake! lol.
It's like a moving target, haha.

Set - used when setting an ID on something (engine, accessory, SS Diner car, etc.). Just like the Cab2 remote.
Enter- used to select an item already in the Base (if not using the roster for example). Enter engine # and press Enter. The engine will appear all the way on the top of the screen as the currently selected engine and any commands you do will be for that engine.
X - Thats the backspace key. When you enter a number (for whatever purpose, adding an engine, addressing engine) it enters into the 4 digit box above the keys. If you make a mistake, just tap the X and it deletes the whole box back to 0000 so you can re-enter the number.
Both Set & Enter work another way too. If your engine or car is already programmed with an ID and you want to add it to your base without reprogramming it.
Simply type in its programmed ID number and hit either set or enter and it will add with that ID a new item. Then swipe up on the screen to add the Engine Config details (or switch, or accessory details or whichever screen you are on) to set the details for that item.

This is the trouble I am having. I have an LC+2 that responds perfect in TMCC mode.
I put any ERR based equipment on and try to provision it and the base just gives up.
Yellow light doesnt even flash when issued commands. Then after a moment, one of the sound boards on the ERR will pop and suddenly starts working.

I could not get the base3 to connect to my wifi either. WPS did not work for me either. I tried connecting according to the documentation and the app would seemingly connect, but the orange Lionel light would never light up.
I had to set a static ip address in my Wi-Fi router and then manually set that ip address in the Wi-Fi connection settings in the cab3 app. This finally worked and worked consistently. Hope this helps some folks.
I have been able to get the Base3 to successfully connect to my home WiFi and access it via the Cab3 app. However, it will not allow me to specify a static IP address. It works fine with a DHCP assigned address, but when I go into WiFi setting and specify an IP address (which I know is not in use on my network), it stays connected until my phone goes into screen/battery save mode. When I start up the phone, the Cab3 app can no longer connect to the Base3. If I change the WiFi settings in the app back to use a dynamic address, it reconnects fine. I would really like to give the Base3 a static address, but it isn't working for me.

You might be able to do this on your router. Many routers allow you to have a connected device retain its IP address. If you can live with the one that was assigned via DHCP, your router likely can always have it use that IP, even after any reboot.

What's the make and model of your router? Like stated, I give most stuff like this a static address on my network, otherwise I have similar issues.
I use the Legacy #990 and the WiFi box connected to my home network. Before I locked it's IP address, I had the same issues when I'd fire up the layout again, I'd have to go reconnect manually. Locked the IP address in my router, no more problems.

My router is configured to only use addresses from 192.168.1.75 up to 192.168.1.150 for DHCP. Any addresses above 150 won't be assigned to devices. I have tried both 192.168.1.180 and 192.168.1.254. Neither address worked. My router allows me to permanently reserve IP addresses for specific devices based on their MAC addresses. Every piece of networking equipment I have ever owned has a label that shows the device's MAC address. But, Lionel does not include a MAC address label on the Base3. I had to go into my router's DHCP client list to find the Base3's MAC address. I set up that MAC address with a reserved IP address of 192.168.1.180 and rebooted the router. That did not work.
Since other people have apparently been able to assign a static IP address to the Base3, I am either doing something wrong or there is something about my home network that is preventing this from working.

Without knowing your router make & model, I can only guess as to what is happening.
Some routers will only allow to reserve ip addresses within the DHCP range, I haven't run into this with recent devices but I can't rule it out.
If you can see what IP address your router assigns the BASE3 in the DHCP table, you can force your CAB3 app to look specifically at that IP. See below:
I did exactly as you wanted where I reserve a specific IP address for the BASE3. The BASE3 is still set to DHCP but my router gives it the same IP upon request. I don't think there is a way to manually assign an IP address to the BASE3 from within the CAB3 WiFi Setting screen above.

I have similar issues. On the initial joining of the Base3, it received a DHCP address and it is stuck on that IP. All attempts to set a static address outside my DHCP range using the Cab3 App have failed. I guess I'll have to wait for the Base3 System Utility unless there is a way to do a factory reset on the Base3.

Same a a Legacy remote...
Main is the over all volume of the engine.
Blend is the background sounds volume only. Steam let off, hissing, etc. (We access this on a Cab 2 by pushing AUX1+Volume.)
EFX is the labor for a locomotive. For a steam locomotive you will get heavier chuffs and diesel a labored diesel sound.
Quick thought maybe someone knows.
According to the documentation, the images you take for each device (engine, train, acc, etc.) are actually stored on the phone/tablet and not in the Base3. What happens if you get a new phone, or have to reset your phone, etc. Where and how are the images stored on the device exactly and is there any way to backup and somehow restore them?
Retaking all the pictures again is not the end of the world, but it would be nice to know how it works.

They're definitely associated with the phone. Whether Lionel has a future plan to transfer these would be an @Dave Olson question. Certainly is an interesting thought though. I saw you added a ton of pictures in your video of all your accessories and such so I can see where this might have an impact. I've done this with my accessories, switches, and blocks but mine pale in quantity compare to yours.

I'm not sure either phone/tablet operating system (Apple or Android) would allow an app to store photos anywhere other than the operating system's usual storage location. If they did, it might cost them potential advertising revenue. If my supposition is correct, you should be able to locate those photos and copy them to a back-up site.
Pure speculation, of course.

Just as an FYI, I found that if I went to the extreme left hand side of the numeric keypad section of the app and did my swiping up or down it works every time and prevents you from accidentally touching a button that might cause chaos. In the image below where the yellow line is.

Apps can have their own local isolated storage, like Chrome or Safari. They have caches that can stack up to several gigabytes. I imagine that the data they have can be backed up to your respective account depending on manufacturer. Example Apple iCloud stores a backup. When you switch devices it lets you pick up where you left off or restore it if a new device.

Yes you can run it off Base3 and the App. I have been. I hear there are some issues with ERR (Electric RR Upgrade) which I can't confirm as I don't have any engines equipped with ERR out currently but Lionel factory TMCC seems to be fine..

I rebooted my router to clear all DHCP clients. I immediately reserved the first DHCP address (192.168.1.75) for the MAC address of the Base 3. After doing that the router must be rebooted again.
I then powered the Base3 and it connected using the 192.168.1.75 address. In the Cab3 app it showed the address 192.168.1.75 as being assigned by DHCP. I switched the 192.168.1.75 address to a static (manual entered) address. Everything was still working. I shut down the Cab3 app, restarted it and it connected using the static IP address.
I then shut down the Cab3 app and powered off the Base3. I powered up the Base3 and then started the Cab3 app. The app crashed. I couldn't close it. I had to go to Android settings to force stop the Cab3. I started the Cab3 app and it worked fine. Once again I shut down the Cab3 app and powered off the Base3. I powered up the Base3 and then started the Cab3 app. SUCCESS! No crashed app. Connected using the static IP address. You were correct about the router....I need to use an address in the DHCP range. I checked the router documentation about reserving addresses and there is no mention of having the use addresses in the DHCP range.
Thanks for your help.
Ok i got the tmcc engine to work, but it doesnt save it to the app or base. I have 3 engines in the app First one is lionchief santa fe loaded no problem with pic and all info. 2nd loaded my lionchief + 2.0 csx np pic or info 3 rd one was a legacy us steel switcher and agian no pic or info. i must be doing something wrong?
I haven't hooked up my Base 3 yet. In the process of removing Realtrax and replacing with Gargraves and Ross Custom. Anyway, I'm curious as to why it seems most people are connecting the Base 3 to home WIFI instead of allowing it to make its own network?? This is how I have run my DCS WIU for years without issue. I had many problems when I tried to connect it to the home WIFI in the beginning. Is there any advantage to connecting the Base 3 and WIU to home networks?? I can't wait to get mine up and running.
