I've been considering buying one of these Shifters but have two questions for those of you that have some. Many 0-4-0 engines, because of their short wheelbases, don't ride smoothly over switches (case in point....my PW 1656). How do these Shifters do with switches?   Secondly.....in an older thread, there was discussion of adding battery backup to engines that have Railsounds "Lite". The consensus was, you needed a particular board in the tender to do that. According to the Lionel parts page for these, it has the proper board. Is there room in the tender for a battery?  Thanks

I have the K-Line A5, mine is the TMCC version and I added cruise control.  One improvement you can make if you have issues over the switches is to parallel the pickups in the tender with the locomotive so you spread the power pickup.  I've done a number of locomotives this way, including the A5.  I add a PTC to the power wire if I do this mod to prevent derailments from potentially cooking the wiring.
