This engine runs full power in reverse with bother motors smoothly operating. In forward the one motor seems to slip not running continually with full power. I don't how to start to fix this

My first thought is to pull the shell off and make sure both motors are securely mounted. Motor mounting screws pass through motor down into truck.
The horizontal double-worm shaft in the offending truck is probably shifting too much and contacting the bronze motor truck frame cover.
I checked that then after doing that now the engine shorts out and I can't see why
If the worm shaft is moving forward contacting the bronze plate how do I fix that, assuming I can find my short
Here is a pic (from Olsen's CD) of the truck worm geared shaft. At one end, the gear appears to have a raised area (boss?) where attached to the shaft that probably acts as a thrust bearing in one direction. At the other end of the shaft is an actual bearing (2333-65) that acts as rotational and thrust bearing.
As you know, thrust bearings are used to keep shaft from side to side movement.
