The doors (entry door and two garage doors) DO NOT open on the Ameri-Towne #503 Trackside Shed. They are molded into the wall sections. Both garage doors have molded in hinges so they represent doors that swing open rather than slide to the side or lift up over head.

You can carefully cut these doors out with a hobby knife or a saw, and then add your own hinges. I have done this on many buildings (like the Korber kits) and run a piece of floral wire along the hinged edge (leave extra at the top and bottom). Then I glue pieces of plastic over these top and bottom extra lengths so the doors can be opened and closed.

One thing to be aware of is that the CURF of the saw makes the doors smaller than the opening so there may be a "loose fit" that lets light through the crack. You can make door stops to prevent the doors from opening outward (or inward) with additional trim pieces of plastic.

Another interesting point is that on both the long side walls there are molded in recesses with plates that look like they are for either a smoke jack chimney or wall fan, but neither are in the kit. The walls of this kit are thinner than most of the Ameri-Town kits. You will want to paint the inside of the walls so the building does not "glow" like the Plasticville buildings do. There are TABS and Flash on the pieces that you will want to remove before assembling the kit. There is no floor in the kit.

I think this is a very nice size building for a layout. Adding the welder inside will look super.

Hope this helps answer your question. Paul Goodness
