I bought one of these at a Cabin Fever auction recently, and after lubing and cleaning, it works well. I saw in the Lionel repair guide that the red light was supposed to flash, but Lionel wasn't happy with the brightness of the flasher bulb. Are there any modern ones that would work well? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if this one was designed with a flashing red light, at least not the original. I could be wrong, but almost all of the 52 fire cars and reissues I've seen had the light glow constantly.
The best idea though is to find a bulb that will flash, kind of like the bulbs used for the 410 billboard blinker.
is there a picture?

The 410 didn't have a blinking bulb, it used a thermostatic switch similar to the #193 water tower and #455 oil derrick

Then it must be a feature on reissues of the 410. I have the reissue from 1992, and it will only flash with a special bulb, otherwise it won't blink.
