Just did some product searches on MTH's website, to my amazement I received several Hobby Shop results!

All were non- OGR sponsors...and you can see why, ...here is what happens when you go to the sites:

Site 1: Item found, but no picture..ok, no problem, so I click on the item to order and it sends me to Lionel Polar Express Website!

Site:2 Item found, I click on it to order, and I get 'Page not found".

Site 3: Item found, go to website, and item is no where to be seen

Site 4: Item found, go to website, and the only hint of this item is an MTH Logo, so I click on it and it returns a table, that when i click on the item, brings me back to the MTH site and page that brought me there in the first place, i.e. the item in the Product Locator, with teh 'Find It' button etc.

Site 5: Item found, go to website, and the only thing remotely close is an MTH icon, that brings me a shabby inventory list, that doesnt show the item, links that when you click on them shows the MTH website I came from...no way to order it.

Site 6: Item found, but cannot locate it on the web site, I do a product search, nothing, in fact no model trains at all, so I go back to menu and start selecting different things, and I get the following.."Please call us for additional inventory".

Seriously?

Why even bother having a website!

In a nutshell, I have no issues such as these when visiting my several tried and true OGR sponsors.

Hey dude, because we get a BIG BENEFIT from buying from sponsors. This is an interactive site. If we have questions, we usually get answers. If we want to know what's happening in the industry, it's usually somewhere here. When we want to know what's going on at York, we get lots of information.

It was probably a pretty gutsy move early on by OGR to do this, because it risked cannibalizing the magazine without supplying cash flow. Kudos to them. The world changes and they changed with it. The Forum deserves the support and when you go to their advertisers, they get that.

PS  It also keeps Alan and Allan busy.

If possible I have always attempted to first order from the sponsors of the OGR forum, but to be truthful in a few cases, I have received very poor service from a few of them in regards to not answering the phone or email messages and saying they had a product, then later discover after not receiving the product, they tell me it is on order and will not be available for a couple of weeks.

No bashing intended, just stating my experiences.

Gentlemen,

The OGR Sponsors are fine people with good businesses, that being said my local

hobby shops here in the Pittsburgh, Pa area, like Bill & Walts have original Lionel Tin Plate that few other businesses stock. Then again, I really appreciate the Ross Company, one of our OGR Sponsors and the way they professionally answer all my questions about their switches, very knowledgeable people working for that particular sponsor, and they do not misrepresent their products, which is big time important to me when purchasing.

Chipset,

I have not had the poor expierance you described.

I've only dealt with MTH's item locator and for the most part the Dealers that I've emailed have always responded. I find the locator to be very helpful.

As far as sponsors here, It is an invaluable source, especially for newbies who don't know where to find certain products.

I actually love MTH's Product Locator, but for whatever reason, I have not had much luck with it lately, nor with the quality of sites it has been returning lately.

Are all of our Forum Sponsors participating in it?
