Go dome......or go home !
I will more than likely ride in deluxe coach to ride in watx 539 ex N&W Powhatan arrow car. Maybe dome car.
Note: These excursions are sponsored by the North Carolina Transportation Museum and these trips are in addition to the already posted excursion schedule posted by the Virginia Museum of Transportation who owns the 611. Prices for those trips will be forthcoming.
See you on the train!
Wow, Spencer to Lynchburg and back seems like a very long trip. Wish I could do it.

That's the one I'm planning on.
Spencer to Lynchburg is 150 miles. 141 (give or take) to Asheville. They are both nice rides, and the scenery going to Asheville is downright spectacular. One of the prettiest railroad lines on the east coast.
Got my tickets for the American excursion today. Also got tickets for both trips in April. I Will have ridden 800 miles behind 611 after June 4th.
We are in an unusual situation here in the western NC mountains west of Asheville. To take this trip we have to drive the 165 miles past Asheville to Spencer, ride the train back here to Asheville and then return to Spencer. Debark and drive the 165 back here! Whew....
C.Sam,
I really don't see the problem. It IS N&W 611,,,,,,,,,,,,,right?
The longer the ride...the more 611 you get : U-Rah !
I hear ya Sam. We did that type of drive out West so we could ride the silverton darango train.
Ain't gona happen again.
It's certainly not because I don't value a ride on the 611.

Just purchased tickets this morning for the Greensboro to Roanoke excursion on April 23rd. Should be an awesome trip!
We're going on the American at Manassas, VA on June 4. Regular coach because we're too cheap for the expensive cars. I would have liked the full dome or Dover Harbor, but the prices, ouch. With talks about steam hater Hunter Harrison moving from CP to NS in the CEO seat, who knows if 611 will run on NS in 2017.
