Catching up a bit here—again. On July 30-31, 2012, NKP 765 made a ferry move from Toledo, Ohio to Williamson, WV via Bellevue, Columbus, and the overnight stop in Portsmouth, OH. We picked up the chase in Bellevue. General plan for the ferry moves seems to be a bunch of delays in the morning, and clear signals in the afternoon for an early evening arrival. Such is life on the railroad, but it made for some very nice afternoon lighting.
From Portsmouth south to Williamson on Day 2, the 765 was wearing a Norfolk & Western Y6a hooter whistle (similar to the one on N&W 1218). Good to hear that sound again. One of the required spots was the N&W coal tower in Prichard, WV, although it’s just a bit more overgrown than it used to be.
More to come…
