How to load DCS engine data into Premium App from computer remote back up?

maybe it is possible??? I thought it wasn't.

This appears to be covered on pages 114 and 115 of Barry’s DCS WIFI COMPANION.

For some reason, I thought I had read a post and a reply here, that you could only go from the app to the remote? (or app to app.)

It's good to double check.

I have Barry's WiFi companion. I cannot find instructions for transferring backed up data from the computer to the app.

From page 115 of The DCS WiFi Companion 1st Edition:

Importing the DCS Application's Contents

To import a previously saved DCS Application's contents, the DCS Application's Import button is not used. If the Import button is tapped, the DCS Application will only display a message explaining how the import function is actually accomplished.

In order to Import a file to replace the contents of the DCS Application via an E-mail attachment:

• Receive the E-mail using the smart device's E-mail program.
• Tap on the attached export file.
• Select the DCS Application as the receiver of the file.
• A dialog box will appear asking to import the exported file.
• Tap the Import button in the dialog box to import the contents of the exported file. This will completely replace the existing contents of the DCS Application on this smart device. If this was done in error, tap the Close button.
• When the file has been imported, an "Import Successful" message will appear. Click the Close button to complete the process.
• After the import process has been completed, refresh the contents of the DCS Application.

To import a DCS Remote backup file, the file must first be made ready for use by the DCS Application. To do so, change the DCS Remote's backup file from having a .txt extension on the end of its name to having a ".mth" extender instead. Next, E-mail the file as an attachment to an E-mail address that is available to the E-mail program on the PC or smart device intended to receive the file.

Then, proceed as described above to receive the file on the smart device.

After a DCS Remote backup file is imported, there may be some DCS engine entries that have an entry with a blank or erroneous engine name. If this happens, the solution is to delete the engine from the DCS Application and then re-add it.

To prevent the problem from reoccurring if the DCS Remote backup file is imported again into the same, or a different, DCS Application, do the following:

• Using the DCS Remote from which the backup file was made, delete and re-add the engine that had the missing or erroneous name.
• Use the DCS Loader Program to recreate and replace the original corrupted backup file.
• Follow the steps above to make the new DCS Remote backup file available to the DCS Application.

How do I change the remote backup file name extension from (.txt) to (.mth)?

As always, thank you.

I,m having the same issue finding a way to change the file name. Barry, can the name be change after it's emailed and within the device that contains the app?

Changing the file name from .txt to .mth is a function of your computer and it's operating system, not DCS.

I'm a Mac user and changing file names is a trivial operation on any Mac. On my Windows 7 PC, however, I always seem to have difficulties doing so. It can, however, be done. I suggest right-clicking on the file name to start. Hopefully, some one more Windows-knowledgeable than I will come along and provide a more helpful answer.

As far as changing it on a tablet or smartphone, if there's an easy way to change the name of an E-mail attachment, I have yet to find it.

I suggest that you change it before you E-mail it as an attachment.

Hopefully someone from MTH can tell us how to proceed.

It's not MTH that you need. Anyone more Windows-knowledgeable than yours truly should be able to help

Sounds like you need to change your “folder options” if you can’t see the extension to rename it.

On Windows 7:

- Go to your Control Panel.

- Double-click “Folder Options”

- Click the “View” tab

- Uncheck the box “Hide extensions for known file types”

- Click “Apply”, then click “OK”, and close your Control Panel

Go to wherever you had your list of files, and you should now see the extension, just “right click” on it and choose “rename”.

It is easiest to do this on the machine you made the backup with before you email the file to yourself and open the email on your phone/tablet.

Actually it is even easier in Windows 10 then Windows 7.

While you are in File Explorer looking at your list of files, just click the "View" menu item at the top and check the box titled "File name extensions".

Then just rename the file.
