Today I photographed a BNSF BURLINGTON NORTHERN flat car that can be scratchbuilt from parts produced by Plastruct that are cut to size and bonded together. The parts are even more obvious and easy to distinguish than most bulkhead flat cars. They kept this design very simple to build.

Somebody with a large amount of plastic sheets and shapes could make this boxy, bulkhead flat car design rather quickly.

It is a very long flatcar.

Someone can take an off-the-shelf flatcar with ready trucks/couplers as quick & dirty solution, then glue few plastruct/evergreen styrene profiles/plasticsheets and finally re-paint and decorate with BN/BNSF lettering/numbering.

On the photos the special car has heavily surface damage, so the converted/scratch-built model needs plently of weathering.

The sides of this 85' Flat Car are completely straight. The Atlas o 89' Flat Car has angled sides. It is a much simpler design.

That's why I specifically used the word "kitbash."
