I had a great morning running trains why? it's been awhile since really wanting to run them I finally figured it out I was tired of the command control do this do that traction tires lying on right of way I spent more time fixing trying to remember push this turn that fill with smoke oops no fan no smoke sounds go merrily silent and so on.

so after turning all tiu's toggles to the off position and turning on 2 lionel 180 watt bricks and activating the Tpc's off I went for the most fun I've had for years the ozone smells the wild sounding door bell  diesel horns and OMG the old lionel steam whistle imagine a fun filled day running not working on trains and various electronics this truly was a fun day I set the latest greatest on the shelves and pulled the 50 year olds off the shelf with some grease oil and not run in 5-6 years imagine nary a traction tire or a sound board going bad.

to those that feel like the newer electronic locomotives of today are more work than play do as I did setup to run conventional and the enthusiasm you felt long ago before command control came along and you will be rejuvenated back to a simpler time where you just plain ran trains and enjoyed them.

mind you I like the newer engines and sounds now if they could incorporate the old train manufacturers reliability and just plain run I would like them more.

I plan on running conventional all through Christmas to remind me the fun one can have just running a train.

Happy train days,

During the last of my 3 rail adventures, I was coming to the same conclusion: Simple, nice looking and great running Postwar trains and be done with it.

Beware!  You're treading dangerously close to saying those dreaded words that hail the "The Bad Old Days" group to descend on your thread and taking it to the pooper!
