Moving soon into a new room. I already have secured secure the necessary tables to do a 10'X10' perimeter layout.

Like my LHS, and some others here, I want to cover my surfaces with green indoor/outdoor carpet. So, my questions are twofold:

     1. How do I know if the carpet (rug) will be safe to use electrically with my Fastrack and other wiring?

     2. Is there a way I can predict beforehand how well a selected material can accept holes from drilling without getting bunched up?

If any of you carpet/rug users have comments and/or advice I'd sure like to hear them. Going to find a cheapo outlet store in Scranton or Wilkes-Barre, PA if I can and get the necessary material in about a week or two.

Thanks very much...

hey Michael,

The pyle material will definitely be flammable to open flame. They don't test for heat, but a very long short may melt something before it burns. Marine grade carpet would have a better safety factor, but certainly cost more. Good breakers\circuit protection is your friend.

It will bunch up when drilled. I make an X with a razor knife before drilling through stuff like that. Screws will go right through it.

Anyway, that's my 2¢.

You piqued my interest with your question so I took a sample of  indoor/outdoor carpet I bought at Home Depot Sunday and put a match to it. The flame melted a hole through it  but, rally, didn't support combustion. I do think if something else started burning with a flame it would melt and burn like any plastic. I just used carpet is road bed mainly for cost but would cover the whole thing if I could.  If this carpet is burning then you ave a much bigger problem. Use fuses if you want, safer than breakers, and keep a fire extinguisher handy too.
