Wonderful video,thanks for posting.
That was nice, some interesting facts as well. $900,000,sure puts things in perspective.
Very nicely done.
I've been following the rebuild on their Facebook page. Those volunteers don't get enough credit.

I agree.
I would love to volunteer some of my time to help the re-build but the one and only safety class they have this year I had another commitment that I could not get out of.
You're right about the one and only safety class but in special instances we give private classes. Give us a call we would like to see you.
Ron
I don't know if you caught it from the video, but the executive director talked about hosting a train festival again in 2014. Hmmmmmmmm. Sounds great to me.

I did catch that! I searched the internet for it but came up with nothing.
Hey jdevleerjr, I've been working on it and I didn't even know a video was made. They did a really great job on it. Although I haven't been over there in over a month, I've been doing a lot of grinding. I bought a respirator as it's a nose filler without one. Another cool thing is you don't realize how huge it is inside the boiler until your standing up in there and reach up and still can't touch the top of it with your hand. And yes more help is definately needed. Here's a video of me grinding away on the stay bolts.
I emailed some time ago now about a group from the Detroit 3 Railers, going up to volunteer some time on the locomotive. I've never heard back. Please pass along to the appropriate party and have them email me if they could use a few hands some weekend.

Maybe things are different now but it used to be that if you were serious about helping out that arrangements could be made. I am surprised that a group that is hungry for help only schedules ONE offering in a year for a mandatory safety class. My suggestion would be to try to find out what other arrangements can be made.

Charlie...
I didn't know if you were aware but there was some turnover there and your offer may have fallen through the cracks. My suggestion would be to check their website for their phone number and current office hours. If that doesn't work, shoot me an email and I will find a contact for you. I know how frustrating it is to offer to help somewhere like that and to be ignored.
Here is the URL for the Steam Railroading Institute's volunteer page: http://michigansteamtrain.com/sri/volunteer/
They have volunteer orientation days once a month from March through November though I am guessing the special safety class is offered less often as Jim noted.
Eric,
Several D3R members would like to go up and help out as service to the preservation efforts. I'll have to try another contact to see if they are interested. I'm an SRI member myself and I thought I'd get a response from either TJ before or David now, but alas I have not heard. I did email them both.

If any of you guys have a facebook account, I know SRI actively updates their page with volunteer information.
@Charlie...
I was once told to follow up with a phone call as soon as email either failed to get a response or failed to immediately clear up whatever the issue was. That advice has saved me a ton of grief at work and in my personal life. I'd be at the stage where I'd be on the phone but I understand if that doesn't work for you.
@Jake...
I do check that from time to time but I am only hitting Facebook rarely right now. It would be worthwhile to check there but they do need to keep up with their website too. I forget who is maintaining it. Was it Skip Vandermolen?
