Accessory voltage work around?

I have picked up a DCS and TIU this year and also have a few accessories on the way (gateman and package station). However, my transformer does not have an accessories voltage tap. My two thoughts on the accessory voltage is

1. Run the track in conventional/dcs to lower voltage to 14VAC. I do not run the train that fast anyways, so probably ok. I also have several taps, so no worries on voltage drop on the far side of the track.

2. Operate a second port on the TIU with the conventional mode for 14VAC and run power to the accessories from this.

Any warnings or thoughts on either of these? If these are bad, is there a low cost transformer for accessories that is recommended?

I would get another transformer for the accessories. Anything cheap at a

train show will do.

In the future you may want to run TMCC and that will put 19V on the track.

With the accessory transformer you can set the light level you want on

the buildings regardless of what the trains are doing....

No reason you can't run the accessories from a variable channel on the TIU, just remember that power used for the accessories is shared by the track if you only have one input power source.

I don't know about the package station, but the gateman really operates nicely, and QUIETLY from DC rather than AC. You might think about an old HO DC power pack if you'd like your gateman to be quiet.
