Is it as difficult to remove the shell from the Wabash 21" cars as it is for the new 21" passenger cars such as the Pennsy ones? I would like to add passengers to my Wabash cars, but don't want to encounter any problems with sticking tape keeping the shell from being removed.

No, it should not be. The tape issue only arose with the newest/second run 21" cars. I have taken apart a couple of my first run cars without difficulty. When re-assembling them you have to be careful not to pinch the wires to the lighting, which are located in a slot near one of the body screws. Otherwise however it's a fairly easy job - as it was originally designed to be.
