I am putting together the Berkshire Valley two stall engine house.  I used some styrene Plastruct trusses as roof supports (deviating from the intended use of wood around the perimeter construction) and wanted to permanently bond these to the plastic resin walls.  I sanded the parts that would be joined.  I used Plastruct's plastic weld to glue the styrene to the walls.  The joint just pops off.  In construction of my layout, I have had a similar questions when the bonding was needed; what adhesive to use in various situations.  The trial and error I've used takes time.

I have searched the web, youtube, & the OGR forum, but there isn't a clear guide for bonding agents.  I am sure others have the same questions.

What is the best adhesive to use:

wood to wood - PVA glue (yellow carpenter's glue)

metal to metal -

styrene to styrene - Plastic weld

Plaster cast (Downtown Deco) to plaster cast -

Foamcore board to foamcore board -

Foamcore board to wood - PVA glue (white glue or yellow carpenter's glue)

plastic resin to plastic resin - I used Walter's Goo but not sure this is a permanent bond plus the joints aren't clean.

styrene to plastic resin -

styrene to metal -

styrene to wood -

styrene to foamcore board -

Plaster cast to wood -

Plaster cast to styrene -

Plaster cast to plastic resin -

Plaster cast to metal -

Plaster cast to foamcore board -

Masonite to masonite

Everyone's input would be appreciated.  I am sure I missed many possible combinations, but this is a start.

Styrene (pink or blue insulating board) to wood, or to another piece of pink insulating board, I always use Gorilla Glue... Found a youtube video of a gentleman wanting to expand his HO layout which was 4 inches of pink insulating board.....  He had no wood to screw to or anchor the extension to.....

Watched his video, totally sold....  Mist one side with water, clamp, put weights on it, or drive large deck screws while glue sets....  In two (2) hours it's cured,  way better experience than working the the Liquid nails for foam projects....   Besides being really strong, I don't have to wait almost 24 hours for it to set up.   I also use it to anchor rock castings on top of foam, or Hydrocal..... same great result...
