Good morning,

I could use a little help.  I have never used Weaver's Scale Coat II Paint and I would like to know if thier UP Hopper Car Gray would match up with these Lionel Hoppers.  The Weaver web page states: All colors dry to a high gloss finish, except Loco Black which dries to a matte finish.

Here is a picture of the cars.  I installed Kadee couplers (a very addictive habit).  I tried to not go through the frame member but there was just not enough meat to securely thread the screws.  I cut the screws flush to top of the frame and I want to paint the screws to hide them better, but the cars do not have a gloss finish.  I am wondering if the Scale Coat paint would finish would clash and draw attention to an area I am trying to hide?  So how glossy is the "high gloss" finish?  I suppose I could top coat with dulcote if need be.

thanks

If I understand you, all you want to do is touch up a shiny metal screw "tip" to a gray

to match the car color...well, I can't even see the screws in the photos, so I would just

go to a hobby or craft shop and buy some basic (it's also cheap) acrylic paint like Ceramcoat - all that I use comes flat, anyway - in a couple of near-right gray colors, mix and play a bit

on some scrap, and hit the screw tip with a brush. 2 - 3 coats if you need. Finish

with some brushed-on Dullcote for durability.

Unless I've missed something, this does not sound like a job for Fancy Train Paint, and

the W vs. L match would be hit-or-miss, anyway..
